Business and Work Environments
A trade union is a cohort of people involved in similar work or working in the same industry who have banded together for their mutual benefit in matters connected with work. Trade unions exist to collectively represent and protect workers by improving the quality of their working lives.
In the workplace, both employees and employers have rights and responsibilities whether legal or implied. The relationship between them is mostly affected by how these rights and responsibilities are perceived. For example, employers should comply with all legislation, provide Work Cover, provide all leave requirements, and give notice of termination and so on. Employees should have the right to be a union member, be punctual and perform work to a reasonable and acceptable standard, be accountable for their actions and so on.
Some strategies adopted by organisations to demonstrate worker’s value include: recognizing people’s contribution to the organisation; telling employees when they have done a good job; allowing staff time off to attend family-related functions.
Today I’m here to look in to the legalities of the proposals and workable measures which will be effective in helping Bank North to survive the economic crisis.
Let’s have a look the first of the proposals. “Compulsory redundancy for permanent employees over 50 years of age and voluntary redundancy for all employees over 40 years of age.” This is absolutely an unfair dismissal. Employers wishing to terminate a worker’s employment must have a valid, verifiable reason for the termination, and except in the case of retrenchment or redundancy, termination must be based on the worker’s conduct or performance and notice must be given. One invalid reason under the Industrial Relations Act 1999 (QLD) is discrimination. In this case we call it age discrimination. There are no different between 50 years of age and 40 years of age. Young, old and everyone in between – Australians of all ages have a right to be treated fairly and have the same opportunities as everyone else.
The Term Paper on Bad Things Organization Employees Work
What is a good organization? We could define a good organization as one that strives to meet the aspirations of its stakeholders (employees, customers, shareholders, and the communities of which it is a part of). A good number of us believe we work for good organizations. Also, we believe we are doing good things for the stakeholders. Yet frequently, our newspapers are full of stories about ...
The second of the proposals is introduction of workplace agreements for all staff based on work performance evaluations. A Queensland workplace agreement sets out the wages, conditions and working arrangements between an employer and an individual employee. It completely replaces the award under which the employee is engaged, and overrides any applicable certified agreement, unless otherwise specified. A performance appraisal, also known as a performance review, is the process used by management and supervisors to examine an individual’s on-the-job performance in relation to individual, team and business goals and objectives. Alcohol and drug use does not impair employees in the course of their work is a very important policy of workplace surveillance. It is very important that any drug-safe workplace program be communicated throughout a company so as to ensure management and staff feel comfortable with its development and implementation.
The third of the proposals is reduction in leave entitlements such as sick pay and annual leave. As from 1 July 1999 the Industrial Relations Act 1999 (PDF, 1.9MB) provides that minimum leave entitlements apply to all Queensland employees (excluding those covered by federal awards or agreements).
The Essay on Employee Privacy Rights In The Workplace
Employee Privacy Rights in the Workplace Workplace privacy is, probably, one of the most stirring issues. In general, employee privacy is defined by Bennett and Locke (1998) as the general right of the individual to be let alone. Yet, it is very difficult to define the extent to which employees privacy should be respected, if any. When it comes to workplace privacy and the rights of the employees ...
Unless otherwise indicated these entitlements do not apply to casuals, pieceworkers or school-based apprentices and trainees. Generally employees are entitled to: For each completed year of employment employees are entitled to four weeks paid annual leave. (Five weeks paid annual leave for shift workers – as defined).
An additional 17.5% leave loading applies only to employees covered by awards or agreements. A maximum of eight days paid sick leave per year, accruing at the rate of one day for each six weeks service.
A job position description provides a comprehensive outline of the tasks employees must undertake to fulfil the responsibilities of the role. Descriptions are provided to new staff or existing employees who are commencing a new role. Some of the greatest challenges for managers are the pace of change in today’s work environment and maintaining quality staff. The major responsibilities for managers include: planning, organising, leading and evaluating. Low morale, low productivity and absenteeism are all symptomatic of poor management strategies and can result in business failure. Therefore, it is in management’s best interest to develop a ‘fun’ culture where staff feels respected and valued.
The financial outlook may not look good, but is there a way of dealing with redundancy and global recession without falling into a feeling of gloom and despondency? I have some suggestions to give you to think about.
1. Closing some offices. This point will reduce a lot money on rent office places, survey on business and so on.
2. Voluntary redundancy at any age. The employees can quit their jobs at any time any age; just make sure is under their work agreements.
3. Voluntary work agreements. The employers can not adopt and push the employees to sign up the work agreements.
I hope today’s my speech would give you more ideas to think about the best way to solve the problem of the world-wide economic downturn.
