Annoying Anemia
————————————————-
Day 1:
————————————————-
Ali: Hey Dr. Amjad
————————————————-
Amjad: Hey Ali. How are you doing? You look extremely thin. Have a seat. What’s wrong?
————————————————-
Ali: I don’t know. I have been feeling these pains in my chest area and I always seem to be tired.
————————————————-
Amjad: When did this pain start?
————————————————-
Ali: About 3 months ago, I was sleeping and all of a sudden I felt this excruciating pain in my chest area. Since then, I have had hard time breathing and I feel lazy all the time.
————————————————-
Amjad: Do you consume all necessary proteins, fats, vitamins, calcium, iron, and etc. at the level of consumption needed for a healthy human being?
The Research paper on Phantom Limb Pain
Abstract Phantom limb pain is a common symptom experienced by over 90% of amputees. It’s defined as a painful sensation from a part of the body that no longer exists. There are a variety of methods for treating this neuropathic pain, but at the moment there is no specific treatment to tackle the pain completely. A mixture of medications and therapies has been proposed and trialed including drugs, ...
————————————————-
Ali: Well, since probably I was born till 3 months back, I have had the best diet possible. Three months back, I went on a diet and as you can see now, I have lost more than 60 pounds.
————————————————-
Amjad: Is this the cause of extreme exercise or only dietary changes?
————————————————-
Ali: Well I have gone on a diet, and therefore have limited the amount of food I consume.
————————————————-
Amjad: That is a really bad choice you have made, as this limits you from obtaining the amount of necessary proteins, fats, vitamins, calcium, iron, and etc.
————————————————-
Amjad: Do you have any family members that have had any serious diseases in the past?
————————————————-
Ali: Yes I am pretty sure that my grandfather had something called Cooley’s anemia.
————————————————-
————————————————-
Amjad: Ok I will have to measure your heartbeat, your breathing rate, your blood pressure, and the size of your liver and spleen.
————————————————-
Day 2:
————————————————-
Amjad: Come on in Ali, have a seat.
————————————————-
Ali: So what did you guys find?
————————————————-
The Essay on Sickel Cell Anemia
Sickle Cell anemia is a group of inherited red blood cell disorders, or a collection of recessive genetic disorders characterized by a hemoglobin variant called Hb S. Normal red blood cells are round like doughnuts, and they move through small blood tubes in the body to deliver oxygen. Sickle red blood cells become hard, sticky and shaped like sickles used to cut wheat. When these hard and pointed ...
Amjad: Ali, we have to send you to Credit Valley Hospital and there you will meet my twin brother Dr. David, and he will perform a CBC on you.
————————————————-
Ali: I did some research found out that a CBC is short for complete blood count. Right?
————————————————-
Amjad: Yes, keep going what else do you know about CBC.
————————————————-
Ali: Well, doesn’t the CBC measure many parts of your blood. The test checks your hemoglobin and hematocrit levels. Hematocrit is a measure of how much space red blood cells take up in your blood. A low level of hemoglobin or hematocrit is a sign of anemia. The CBC checks the number of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets in your blood. Abnormal results may be a sign of anemia, another blood disorder, an infection, or another condition. Finally, the CBC looks at mean corpuscular volume (MCV).
MCV is a measure of the average size of your red blood cells and a clue as to the cause of your anemia. In iron-deficiency anemia, for example, red blood cells usually are smaller than normal.
————————————————-
Amjad: That is great, you know all about CBC.
————————————————-
Ali: So when will this test be?
————————————————-
Amjad: On January 27th, you are going to go to Credit Valley Hospital and have your test done. As soon as I get the results for the test, probably a week after the test, I will call you back.

The Essay on Sickle Cell Anemia Blood Cells People
Sickle cell anemia is a hereditary disorder that mostly affects people of African ancestry, but also occurs in other ethnic groups, including people who are of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern descent. More than 70, 000 Americans have sickle cell anemia. And about 2 million Americans - and one in 12 African Americans - have sickle cell trait (this means they carry one gene for the disease, but do ...
Day 3:
————————————————-
Amjad: Hey Ali, how are you feeling today? How did Dr. David do the CBC on you?
————————————————-
Ali: Still the same, tired, dizzy, and feeling extreme amount of pain in my chest. And about the CBC, it turned out to be an automated CBC.
————————————————-
Amjad: Really? Can you tell me the steps that Dr. David explained to you for doing an automated blood count?
————————————————-
Ali: Well basically, different parts of the Automated Blood Count Machine account for different parts of the blood and check its normality. An automated cell counter samples and counts so many cells, the results are very precise
————————————————-
Amjad: The results for the CBC performed on you last week are here and it seems you might have anemia to some extent or not have it at all.
————————————————-
Amjad: So here is a diagram which shows the main parts of the body that anemia effects and what it does to that part.
————————————————-
Amjad: Did you research about Anemia too?
————————————————-
Ali: Well actually I did and I found that Anemia is a condition in which your blood has a lower number of red blood cells than normal. Anemia has many names like iron-poor blood, low blood, and tired blood. There are many types of anemia: aplastic anemia, blood loss anemia, Cooley’s anemia, diamond-blackfan anemia, fanconi anemia, Folate- or folic acid-deficiency anemia, hemolytic anemia, iron-deficiency anemia, pernicious anemia, sickle cell anemia, and thalassemias. It affects the red blood shape, circulatory system, the nervous system, respiratory system, the body, and digestive system. Anemia affects both body and mind. Anemia is a low level of hemoglobin, the pigment that carries oxygen around the body. It can lead to muscle weakness and fatigue. It is also said that anemia diminishes the supply of blood to the brain. Anemia can also lead to severe chest pain because parts of the heart are not getting enough oxygen. Lack of oxygen makes the heart work harder, so the muscles in its left-lower chamber may get too thick. This condition is called left ventricular hypertrophy, which can worsen heart disease and increase the chance of heart failure.
The Essay on Anemia Blood Web Deficiency
What is Anemia Anemia is a deficiency of red blood cells or hemoglobin in the blood. The word anemia comes from two Greek roots, together meaning without blood. At the beginning of the nineteenth century, anemia referred to the pallor of the skin and mucous membranes. After medical science advanced, blood cell counts could be done. Anemia became the disease we know today. Symptoms of Anemia Mild ...
————————————————-
Ali: So the results for the CBC are at a level where it cannot be differentiated for? Right?
————————————————-
Amjad: Exactly, everything is on the boundary between being normal and having anemia.
————————————————-
————————————————-
Amjad: Therefore, we are going to recommend you for a reticulocyte test at the Credit Valley hospital. This test will measure the number of young red blood cells in your blood. The test shows whether your bone marrow is making red blood cells at the correct rate.
————————————————-
Amjad: Tomorrow, February 3rd, you are going back to the Credit Valley hospital to have your reticulocyte test done. I will call you probably a few days over two weeks from now. The results for this test usually take 2 weeks to arrive.
The Essay on Sickle Cell Blood Disease Cells
"Sickle-cell anemia" Sickle-cell anemia is an inherited disease, in which the red blood cells become crescent shaped. As a result it functions abnormally, and causes small blood clots. Sickle-cell anemia is caused by a genetic, or defective gene that produces an abnormal form of hemoglobin. Hemoglobin distorts red blood cells after they release oxygen in the tissue. Someone who inherits hemoglobin ...
————————————————-
Ali: Okso who will my appointment be with tomorrow? Can you get the doctor that tested me last time in?
————————————————-
Amjad: I will try to get Dr. David in there but I cannot guarantee you
————————————————-
Ali: Thanks a lot; I will see you in two weeks
————————————————-
Amjad: Now you take care of your self
————————————————-
Ali: One more thing Dr. Amjad. Do you recommend any diet changes or improvements?
————————————————-
Amjad: Not really, but try to get an equal amount of everything. Your iron, vitamins, proteins and everything else.
————————————————-
Ali: Again, thanks a lot.
————————————————-
Day 4:
————————————————-
Amjad: Good morning.
————————————————-
Ali: Good morning, how are you?
————————————————-
Amjad: Fine
————————————————-
Ali: So how are my reports?
————————————————-
Amjad: I have received the results from Dr. David and he has confirmed that you have low levels of iron in your blood but no signs of anemia. This is good news and bad news at the same time. He has told me that this could lead to koilonychias which means that you have iron deficiency. An increase in the consumption of iron will definitely prevent this from happening. Just to give you an idea, have a look at these pictures of people with not only koilonychias, something that could lead to anemia, but also all sorts of anemia patients.
The Essay on Sickle Cell Anemia Disease Blood Cells
BY BETTY J ALLEN OUTLINE Thesis statement: Sickle Cell Disease is an inherited disease that affects the red blood cells. This disease can be treated so a person can live a long health life. 1. Sickle Cell Disease a. What is sickle cell disease? b. Whom does this disease affect? c. What race and geographic region do they belong to? d. c. Causes of sickle cell disease. e. Signs and symptoms and how ...
————————————————-
————————————————-
Amjad: As you can see here, the differences between the hands of a patient with anemia and a person with no such diseases are quiet outstanding. On the right, is an anemia patient and on the left is a normal person. The cause of the red hand is because there is good flow of blood to the hands. While, the patient on the right has sickle cell anemia and there is limited flow of blood. In sickle cell anemia, abnormal hemoglobin form strands cause the sickle shape. Up here, you see what sickle cells look like. In other words, the abnormal level of hemoglobin can shape the red blood cells to be crescent like. The crescent like shape can get stuck in the capillaries which can cause heart attacks. This is what’s called acute chest syndrome and of course it occurs when sickle cells become trapped in the lung and this causes severe chest pain and fever. Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) can result from acute chest syndrome. PAH is caused when blood vessels in the lungs become damaged and the heart has difficulty pumping blood through the lungs, which in turn raises blood pressure. Symptoms include difficulty breathing and shortness of breath. Remember if you don’t increase your iron consumption, it can lead to sickle cell anemia and I can assure you that a balanced diet will help prevent all these diseases. Now that we are done all the tests, I am going to set up an appointment for you at the Credit Valley Hospital after a month with Dr. David to check your iron levels.
————————————————-
Ali: I will quit my diet and eat healthy food in order to get all the necessary nutrients. So when will my appointment be?
————————————————-
Amjad: Dr. David can see you for an appointment on March 27th or April 7th. When do you want the appointment?
————————————————-
Ali: I want an appointment for April 7th.
————————————————-
Amjad: Ok then, April 7th it is.
————————————————-
————————————————-
Ali: So I have an appointment with Dr, David on April 7th and when will you be able to discuss my results?
————————————————-
Amjad: No problem Ali, that’s my job. I will see you on April 27th.
————————————————-
Day 5:
————————————————-
Amjad: Hey Ali, it’s great to see you.
————————————————-
Ali: Thank YouMay I have a seat.
————————————————-
Amjad: Yes surehelp yourself.
————————————————-
Ali: So what do my reports show?
————————————————-
Amjad: I have to say that I am really happy with your results. Your hemoglobin levels are completely normal now.
————————————————-
Ali: Again Dr. Amjadthanks a lot for all your help and I am really thankful and I really appreciate the way you took care of this situation.
————————————————-
Amjad: No problem, so keeps your healthy diet going and hopefully you will never get problems like this ever. I will see you later.
————————————————-
Ali: Bye Dr.Amjad, now you take care of yourself.
