Communication Services
Communication services, are services which allow you to communicate online and through the internet, there are many types of this such as instant messaging and e-mail. These services are very popular to young people, business people, and people who want to send messages quickly and effectively. In my e-book I have chosen to talk about E-Mail and Instant Messaging.
E-Mail is a popular way for people to communicate through internet in a free and effective way. In an E-Mail you can send, receive, and store documents, images, videos and useful links to other websites to people all over the world at any time. Messages can be sent, received, and stored on computers, laptops, smartphones and ipads.
Each E-mail user has their own personal and unique E-Mail address for example, [email protected]. They also have their own Username and Password to make it easier to remember and quicker to send.
E-Mails, such as Windows Live Hotmail make using E-mail easy and effective by having different devices so you can easily print or delete and E-Mail you receive.
E-Mail is growing in popularity across the globe,
* Statistics, extrapolations and counting by Radicati Group from April 2010 estimate the number of emails sent per day (in 2010) to be around 294 billion.
* 294 billion messages per day means more than 2.8 million emails are sent every second and some 90 trillion emails are sent per year.

E-mail is currently replacing earlier popular ways of communication such as Letter Writing, Telephone Calls and Faxing because it is so quick, useful and effective.
Target Audience
The main type of person that will use E-Mail is people involved in business, someone who has to travel often but still send information and communicate with other people, E-Mail is effective for this as they can be sent from almost anywhere and with smartphones or ‘notebooks’. People who work in offices or in schools can use E-mail to send a ‘group E-Mail’ to more than one person at one time which is quicker and easier than writing a letter to each person or calling them. E-Mail can also be used for personal use at home, for families to interact and stay in touch with each other or other relatives who may live in other countries.
The people who are most likely not to use E-Mail are the elderly as they have no need to constantly and instantly interact with people, and the majority of the elderly do not have a lot of knowledge of new technology.
Non-Internet Alternatives
* Texting, is an example of a popular non-internet alternative, it is a way people send text messages from their phone to other phone numbers instantly.
* Fax, is another example of a non-internet alternative, it allows you to send documents such as letters, invoices etc to others by using a machine which scans a copy of the document and sends it to someone else with a fax machine.
* Telephoning is also a popular example of a non-internet alternative, people use telephones and mobile phones, to talk to each other by calling each other’s phone numbers. But this can be quite expensive if used excessively.
Possible Enhancements
* One problem with E-Mail is the maximum file you can send is 10MB, so one good enhancement would be to make the MBs you can send to be unlimited.
* A possible enhancement would also be to stop junk mail being received as 10% of all e-mails sent are junk mail.
The Essay on Phone Lines Internet Web Computer
Windows NT Once a small and simple collection of computers run by the Defence Department, is now a massive world wide network of computers, what we call the 'Internet'. It connects roughly 15 million users in more than 50 countries a ...
* Viruses are also spread through e-mails so if that was eradicated, e-mails would cause less problems, as if a virus was sent to you through e-mail this could cause a lot of damage to your computer. So maybe something that could scan the e-mail before it is sent to you.
Benefits
The benefits of e-mail are:
* Most e-mails and e-mail accounts are free, which makes connecting with people around the world, or even contacting your next door neighbour is cost effective and cheaper than making a phone call or even texting. Businesses often save money from sending e-mails rather than postal packages or faxing.
* E-mail allows you to contact more than one person at a time, with the same message, which can save businesses a lot of time and effort.
* It is a lot faster than sending a letter, and would reach the other side of the world within a few minutes rather than a few days.
* E-mail is convenient and you can read or check your e-mails anywhere at any time.

Although there are advantages of e-mail there is are disadvantages:
* Viruses can be sent through e-mail.
* It can cause identity theft and fraud due to phishing which is when people send messages impersonating a business.
* It isn’t very private as a password could easily be guessed or found out which means sensitive or personal information could be easily shared.
* Spam and junk mail is an issue as it causes an in convenience by sending offers and unnecessary information.
