The single word Plagiarism is the biggest crime among all of the academic activities. Often people defines plagiarism as, it is just like copying anyone elses idea and not crediting the original source. If I ask students about it then they start questioning to me like, Is that really possible to stole idea and words of any other person? or questions like, What kind of problem will some one have if the work done by them is helping someone to get nice grades. The biggest defect of the present academic institutes is that they are not able to make their students understand the seriousness of this offensive act. Plagiarism should not be considered a any simple matter and it should not be treated with adequate efforts (Buranen, Lunsford & Roy 206).
Many universities in U.S started taking action against such misconduct of students. Till now there is no rule prescribed for punishing such attempts rather and it is still up to the institutions to decide the legal actions to be taken against the accused.
Some people often consider that, this act of copying ideas of others is not a crime, rather they put questions like Is this really a crime? or like Is this really going to cost someone something ?. Many people in the field of academic writing are not aware of the consequences of this activity. Plagiarism done by those who take part in academic activities is considered as academic fraud.
The Term Paper on Academic Plagiarism – the Practices and Perceptions
Plagiarism is a common concern in education, entertainment, and some parts of history. The Online Merriam Webster Dictionary (2012) defines plagiarism as “the act of stealing and passing off the ideas or other words of another as one’s own.” This activity is unacceptable and is still performed. Because of this practice, however, researchers conducted surveys in several schools to comprehend this ...
The general opinion among people is that, plagiarism has something to do with copyright infringement. Though plagiarism is not a legal term and this act is totally quintessential for illegal copying of idea of any other person, it is not considered as violation of copyright law ( Buranen, Lunsford & Roy 6).
Copyright infringement and plagiarism are two different terms. By saying copyright infringement of any documentation, we are actually referring to the uninformed use of the documentation without the permission of copyright holder, whereas plagiarism is something related to either a case of false declaration of authorship or of improper citations. Even with the help of copyright laws you cannot protect the ideas and facts of a copy righted data. In U.S severe punishments are suggested by the authorities in order to stop plagiarism. The punishments are based on the academic level and the working platform of the student. In High school standards, the punishment could results into failure in that subject. If this activity is done by the student of any university or college, then the consequences of plagiarism could result into failure in the course or very low grading. But this act is more like a crime at the professional level. The accused could either get suspended or his/her services to the organization are terminated. One could also loose the integrity and credibility of the work. Michael Hand has completed his Ph.D. in counseling psychology in 1982, from the State University situated at New Mexico. In the end sessions of 1997, a tipster sent the university two documents from which Hand plagiarized for his dissertation. In April 1988, the university found Hand guilty and as a punishment to Hand, the university rescinded the Ph.D. degree of Hand(Standler).
Although plagiarism do have symptoms of criminal activity but these cases are not subject to be registered at the courts like other criminal activities. That is why it is yet not compatible to other criminal offences, they are still a subject to civil laws. Hence a common man can also get himself out of these matters very easily. Most of the plagiarism cases are such that the punishment can be up to one year jail and fine up to $50,000.

Plagiarizing is harmful because of many reasons. Following are some of them:
It prevents the students from utilizing their own creativity and knowledge. With such activities the world is not getting compatible scholars.
When you plagiarize you actually steal the credits that should be given to the original creator of that work.
When cases of plagiarism come in front of the world the public report of the institution, get mixed to mud.
Being a teacher Ive been through such experiences that teaches me how to create awareness among the students about this offense. If you are teaching some one top avoid plagiarism then first you should teach him/her, what plagiarism actually is? How one gets involved in it unknowingly? How one can get rid of such circumstances? According to me all the instructors and writing guides should create awareness among the students and writers about the causes and effects of plagiarism. Following are some of the details, which should be made clear to the writers/students before writing. The students/writers should be told about the different kinds of plagiarism activities.
When source is not cited. Following are some of the cases: –
A) If a writer copies word to word from any work created by any other writer and claims for the authorship of the work.

Self-Plagiarism: This is an offence of using ones own creation more than one time under different publication/courses. The writers who perform such activities get credited more than once for their one time effort. It is the readers and publishers who get cheated in this activity. The punishment for such offences often comes as the termination of the graduation or the removal of the designations and ranks.
Whenever I describe these activities, I use to explain some basic terminologies to them. They are as follows:
Fair Use: Some laws are made by the government of United States which are acting as guide lines for writers in the matters like how much data they can extract from any existing work without citing the sources explicitly. These laws explain the legitimate extent to which one can borrow from original content. The limitation of fair use liberty is decided on the basis of intentions of the extractor, amount of data extracted and the effect of extraction over the original works report.
Common Knowledge: These comprises of the facts that are known to every one. Every one knows India is in Asia and India is surrounded by Pacific Ocean, Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal. Writers are not required to quote them. Moreover copyright laws cannot prevent anyone from using these facts.
Paraphrasing: This term represents the act of rearranging the words of any paragraph, without making any change in the vocabulary used. Some of the academic institutions has add some thing more top its definition. Now a days even if you are using the idea of any other person and interpreting it in your own words then also you are paraphrasing and you are subject against whom there must be some actions to be taken.
The Term Paper on Work Plagiarism Student Parents
I understand the pressures grades can sometimes cause. It could be the standards you " ve set for yourself, or the fact that parents, teachers, counselors, friends, and prospective colleges judge you, in part, by the grades you receive, but plagiarizing work is not an option. Plagiarism occurs when you take someone else's words or ideas and pass them off as your own. Sometimes you might not even ...
Public Domain: This domain contains the information, which are no more protected by copyright laws. The general law says that any thing, which is published before 75 years, is a subject to be accessed in public domain.
As my personal experience, there are many things that should be taken under consideration by the instructors and teachers. Following are some of those :-
The students have a lot of pressure for grades in their academic carrier. Some students often use to work for their living along with their studies so when deadline comes they are not updated with the progress of the course in the class. So to submit papers on time for getting nice grades either they buy the papers from commercial sources or just prepare their paper by few copy and paste applications. So the instructors can also give them a chance of late submission. This will prevent them from getting wrong way for completing their assignments.
At the beginning of the session of college/school instructors should properly guide the students for the preparation of their term paper. Instructors should also clarify the punishments for the cases of plagiarism. They should tell the students that getting low grades without plagiarism is far better than getting nice grades by submitting plagiarized papers. To help this the faculty members can arrange plagiarism-avoiding sessions.
Students/writers often think that the optimized content, which is already prepared by someone, would be much better than what they are going to submit by themselves. They really dont know that what they think is more important. Presentation, seminars, group discussion and forums over plagiarism must be conducted in the college/school campus. Student should be encouraged to form anti-plagiarism communities, so that awareness among students will be generated.

Latest technologies must be implemented to catch plagiarism among various documentations. Instructors should always take quick action over any suspected activity done by the student/writer. He must report the case to higher authorities of the institution/organization. The institutions/organizations should make not cumbersome activities over any suspected case. All the decisions must be taken in a quick and appropriate manner.
Instructors can also prevent this activity to a high extent by giving the students such assignment, which are not introduced before. Whenever instructor gives the old topics for assignment papers, most of the student either paraphrase or copy word to word from the previously submitted paper. The caned paper topics is the primary factor contributing to plagiarism(Buranen, Lunsford & Roy 42).
Plagiarism is the biggest threat in academic institutions. It can lead to false attribution of any course work. If plagiarism is not controlled then the intellectual growth of individual will come to an end. It is us who can take special measures against this. Most of the times students/writers students does not plagiarize intentionally. They encounter silly mistakes and confusions regarding proper in-text citation. If we bring some awareness among these people then we can expect improved quality both in citations and documentations of papers. An instructor is the one who can increase the quality writing in any individual.
