1. What is meant by diversity?
Diversity is understanding and tolerance. The concept of diversity encompasses acceptance and respect. Understanding that each individual is unique as well as recognising and accepting individual differences such as race, gender and belief.
2. Describe the community you live in. Highlight some of the variations you may observe in terms of:

Beliefs
Ages
Lifestyles
Personal, social and cultural identities.
I live in a rural setting which is mainly inhabited by elderly residents and families. This means embracing their needs and uniqueness, such as thoughtful parking, being quiet and accepting the needs of children. Interests are varied from walking to children playing as well as visiting surrounding area of interest. There are no other residents other than Caucasian. The only Asian people in the surrounding area are the owners of the local fruit and veg store. The main religious beliefs are based on Catholicism, because of this many people are very family orientated.

The extreme difference in ages means a lot of varying views on community and wider topics. Theses have a direct effect on social topics such as housing and services offered in the community. An example of this is that of housing supplied by the local authority of which comprises of bungalows or good sized family homes.
