Stage Nursing process is an essential core of practice for the registered nurses to deliver patient-focused holistic care. This self- reflection provides an insight on different nursing management chapters. Nursing management and the role played by nurses in their professional dimensions have various crucial aspects such as communication, analyzing, planning, implementation, how to engaging with patients effectively and also clinical reasoning. Several extracts and research have been taken from various readings and reliable sources.
On viewing the first extract in order to reflect on it, I came across the first diagram in relation to the nursing process. Refer to Lewis and Foley, (2011), the diagram made me focus on what these different steps are because in health assessment these are intriguing steps in health assessment frameworks. Nursing process includes five major clinical steps. The first stage is assessment which includes collection of objective and subjective data for determining the overall patient functioning in order to make professional clinical judgment. Typically a medical assessment is conducted for evaluating the aetiology of the disease and response of the patient to potential health problems in order to make correct medical diagnosis. The different types of health assessment include comprehensive initial assessment, partial assessment, problem-oriented and emergency assessments. Second stage is diagnosis, which utilizes the nurse’s clinical judgment on the response of the clients to potential and actual health needs (ANA, 2014).
The Essay on Evolving Practice Of Nursing And Patient Care Delivery Models
Nursing is a career that presents those in it with many opportunities. There are a variety of nurses and the field in which they choose to practice is just as varied. There are oncology nurses, school nurses, home health nurses, trauma nurses and nurse practitioners. They work in clinics, hospitals, schools, prisons, mental health hospitals, community health centers and even in law offices. The ...
Diagnosis is observed as the basis of the nursing care plan and it not only reflects the pain of the patients but also the pain caused by problems such as poor nutrition, anxiety, family conflicts and other complications. The third stage is planning stage which is based on diagnosis and assessment. Here, the nurses set achievable and measurable patient goals for adequate patient care. The next stage is implementation of the care plan during hospitalization and during discharge. The last stage is the evaluation stage where the patient’s effectiveness and status of the nursing care needs to be evaluated and modifies as required (Lewis & Foley, 2011).
Thereby, nursing process is a goal-oriented method of providing care and this provides a systematic framework to the nursing care.
The following extract is focused on patient-centred communication. It is one of the basic nursing components and promotes the expansion of positive patient-nurse relationships. I always knew that communication assists in meeting the psychosocial wants of not only love, belonging but also to self- respect (Hillege et al, 2014).
Communicating effectively is essential for enabling the appropriate deliverance and effective along with efficient care of recognition. This allowed me to get what I know and to understand all the different individuals that I will meet in health care systems. Communication skills guide the patient in expressing emotional and physical needs and thus becoming involved in care. Effective communication allows the health care professionals to meet and identify the needs of every patient. It brings about a sense of control over the patient’ condition and the plan the course of treatment, thus reducing dependency. The trust and confidence for complying with the treatment is also build. Furthermore, communicating well empowers the individuals to express their concerns, worries and other wishes. Thereby, effective communication is one of the fundamental foundations for provision in effective health services (Chapman, 2009).
The Essay on Working With Values And Beliefs When Providing Patient Care: My Nursing Philosophy
Nursing is an art and a science. The profession is an art of compassion and caring in a creative way. Creativity allows nurses to individualize nursing care. Through science, nurses obtain the skills and technology they rely on to achieve each patient’s optimal health (“Nursing”, n.d.). Florence Nightingale became a nurse because she wanted to help those less fortunate. Her ...
Moreover, establishing effective therapeutic relationship through proper communication can establish patient safety, understand the condition of the patient and put the patient at comfort.
While conducting patient interview, different communication variations needs to be considered. This include gerontological, emotional and cultural (Lewis & Foley, 2011) These variations affect the verbal and nonverbal techniques. This extract enabled me to do certain critical thinking on the aspects of communication and how can I obtain information from a person who is disabled or an elderly or even a child. According to Lewis and Foley, (2011), firstly, while interviewing an elderly patient, the interviewer needs to assess the hearing acuity and other related health concerns. It is extremely vital that the confidence and trust in build in the patient. Secondly, cultural and ethnic considerations while communication along with self-disclosure affects significantly the obtained information. Thirdly, emotional variation in communication needs to be observed too. The emotions of the patients vary due to various reasons.
Clinical Reasoning is the term which is used to refer to the ways of thinking about the care issues of the patient. This extract made me understands the knowledge which is needed for reasoning in clinical areas through the practice of nursing. Nurses with effective clinical reasoning skills are shown to demonstrate positive impact on the patient outcome. It is essential that nurses use sound clinical judgment and reasoning skills while exercising clinical practice (Dempsey et al, 2014).
Critical thinking promotes translation of skills and knowledge in nursing practice and ensure high delivery patient care standards. Therefore on the whole, the chapter helped me understand the reasons behind interventions and diagnostic studies understanding the same through care processes, their theories, the principles of researches along with indications that give rise to care implications.

Reflective practice is a continuous nursing learning experience and is an important tool for health care professionals. This chapter helped me in understanding the importance of self -reflection .Reflection of health care workers is a strategy for the development of autonomous, qualified and self-directed professionals. This would bring about significant improvement in delivering health care services and involved in professional and personal growth. According to Dempsey et al, (2014), in nursing field, the nursing reflection model is known as Gibbs Reflective Cycle. The Gibb’s cycle has been adopted in nursing and nursing education in order to facilitate the process of reflection. Gibb’s cycle includes five stages .Stage one is the description of the events when exercising clinical practice. Stage two is about feelings where the things are explored and constant recalling with reflection about feelings and outcomes of the event. Stage three, is evaluation and making judgment about experience. Stage four is the analysis of the situation and making appropriate conclusion and coming to solutions for delivering high standards of care. Through appropriate reflection, the nurses and the medical team can undertake constant feedback and evaluation in forming effective therapeutic relationship with the patients. All these were inclusive of expressing self- awareness, the lifelong learning process, the self- expression stimulation and improvement of the same on the basis of self- expression through learning and cooperation with the help of theoretical linkages and the practical implementations. So, I could reflect that the process of reflection is something that I do in general practice as well however all I need to do is keep myself motivated through the process.
This made the final extract of my reflection. I am realised that as a qualify nurse, not only I have to promoting health to the patients but also promote health education .Health education is one of the components of health promotion. Educating the patient by giving information helps the patient in making better decisions and improves the quality of life. (McKenna, 2011).

From this extract, I am truly understand there are steps to effective teaching need to be considered. First of all, the nurses need to identify and access what is the patient’s preference and educate each individual with appropriate knowledge and skills. Few sectors need attention prior the teaching start. A person’s cognitive ability, willingness, family support networks, financial support, cultural and language need to be considered to establish an effective learning. For me, an effective health education promoting is a powerful tool to maintain a healthy person.
Self- reflection is a crucial aspect of nursing. By reflecting on each of the extracts taken from different texts and resources, I was able to successfully understand where I have more knowledge and where I still need to focus upon. Through this self -reflection analysis a Nurse becomes self -aware and self- directed
