Stepping towards Future…
“Who am I?” it is a simple question I’m always asking from myself. To answer this question I must go back to my past and assess myself. I am always think different, work according to my different thoughts. What are the reasons for such qualities within me?
When I was schooling, I just a poor boy in the class. Sometimes my friends laugh at me because I didn’t wear as them. But I never mind their opinions on me. I was the cleverest student in my class. So my teachers loved me a lot.
My mother and father always guided and still guiding me in a right direction. The touched me, how to make things out of nothing.
When I was in grade 5, I had no idea about passing the grade 5 scholarship examination. But my teachers encouraged me to have goal to pass that exam. Till the result came all are thought that I will pass. But I didn’t! That time also I had a dream to become an engineer. But that idea was created inside my mind by the things happened around me.
In school time I was much like in subject like science and computer. So I always read much about those subjects and gained more knowledge. At that time, idea to become a computer software engineer was grown in my mind, like a growing tree that emerging small green leaves one by one. That idea guided me to read, study and doing small researches on computer science. At that time one computer training institute was started to give scholarships to school students to study computer subjects. As soon I hers that news I was applied for their scholarship. And faced their aptitude test and got a full scholarship to study full course at half of the course fee.

My willingness to learn computer science led me to have good knowledge on that subject.
When I was doing my ordinary level examination, I was not went private classes for school subjects as my friends. I took full advantage from my school teachers and learn everything from them. I had my weekend to whatever I like to do, while others were going to tuition classes. I dedicate my Saturday for go to the computer class and dedicate my Sunday for go to Sunday daham school. From Sunday school I had learned about Buddhism, values and attitudes.
Those values, attitudes and self discipline that I have learned from the temple are guiding me in a correct path. I don’t do any bad or illegal thing because I always think according to teachings of the lord Buddha. These self disciplines within me will help me when I’m working somewhere in near future. It will help me to keep my head straight forward.
When I’m facing to the O/L examination I didn’t have any idea what to do after passing the examination. Most of my friends told me that they are going do mathematics, biology, commerce etc. but I didn’t knew what to do. So I spent couples of months thinking that what I should do for my A/Ls. After I received O/L results I make my mind to do my A/Ls in biology stream.
During studying for A/L, I didn’t have more attraction to be a doctor like my friends had. My attraction was towards the computer field and become a software engineer. Therefore I always try to gather knowledge about computer field as my hobby. My target was to get marks to enter BIT degree in Colombo University or in Rajarata University. With this ambition I have faced my A/L examination first time. Results were come and I didn’t have enough Z score to achieve my target. Therefore I decided to do examination again, in my second time I have got that required marks for entering to my targeted university for my degree program. I was very happy. And my best friend was entered that university for computer science in first attempt to A/L. So I together with him studied lot about subject. But my lucky was not that much good. UGC has increased cut off marks for entering computer science degree in both universities. My whole target was just faded away. I was helpless at that time. I thought that I am the most unlucky person in the world. I haven’t idea to do the examination again. Therefore I changed my mind to do whatever the degree.

I took the university application book and read it from top to bottom. Then I realized that there are many degrees that can apply with my Z score. I was felt happy that time. I have found that there are many degree programs in Uva Wellassa University. So I read the whole profile of UWU. And logged on to UWU web site and I saw there are computer degrees too. But my Z score was not enough to apply to those degrees. At that time I had made my mind, so that was not a problem to me. I got help from one of my friend who entered to UWU to follow Science and Technology degree program. He helped me in many ways to get here. I applied several courses in UWU and finally I was selected for animal science degree program.
Doing absolutely different subject than my passion was bit difficult to me. I’m running after computers like a little boy who following a butterfly to catch it. Now my passion is animal science and I’m doing my level best to achieve 1st class degree in animal science. It is not easy as saying that. I have to work hard to achieve the target. Semester to semester it is getting harder to achieving my target. But I’ll never give up. I want to do my level best whatever I’m doing.
Now I’m studying animal science my level best. It is the only way to be a successful man in the future and help my parents and look after them. They are giving money to me for my educational and other purposes without any single condition. I have responsibility to take care about them in the future. They never said that they haven’t money when I asked.

Previously I have made my goals to become a computer software engineer. But I re make my goals and now I’m targeted to be an animal science 1st class degree holder, and add value to the local resource base. To achieve my goals I’m studying well as much as possible. In past two semesters I have scored well in my examinations. Achieving those small goals will finally lead me to my ultimate goal.
All the experiences that I have gathered in my past will help me to face my future well. During my life time I have developed being patient as habit so I can be patient than others. I never worried about what don’t have. I always happy with things I have. And use efficiently what I have. I never worried that I have no enough money. I manage little money that I got and do more work than others. This management ability will help me to face my future well.
As a UWU student, I believe that, I have got a great chance to go beyond my dreams and make them fulfill. As I have a great interest on genetic engineering. I can work hard and follow my studies further. As I am an Animal Science under graduate, I have a good opportunity to deal with animals. Therefore I can do my studies well and concern more on animal welfare and their productivity as animal welfare is concerned in very much in the world.
Our country is one of the most biodiversified countries in the world. We have good potential to improve our native breeds of animals to higher producing state. By doing improving program I hope to introduce our own animal breeds to the world.
In our country climatic and other environmental factors can be found which are available in different countries in the world. Hence we can rear good productive animals which are originated in other countries.
Graduates and knowledgeable people related to animal science and animal husbandry is essential and has a good demand for them in our country in order to develop livestock sector up to a higher position.
However my ultimate target is to get a 1st class degree in animal science.
In nut shell, I would like to pay my honor for my father and mother, and my teachers at school time, and my lectures and all my friends and family members for giving me strength to come such a long journey.
