The nineteenth century saw huge social and economic changes. Society shifted from a largely rural agricultural community of ‘landed gentry’ and land workers, to urban communities based on manufacturing more than ever before. One’s place in society was defined by one’s ability to make and control money. Those who controlled the money were the bankers and lawyers. Their ability to control money enabled them to control others’ lives, including defining morals. The story starts with Nora when she borrows money from Krogstad, though Norsa’s husband does not know about this. After a promotion they become wealthy and Nora starts to pay back the money. Krogstad works for Torvold, Nora’s spouse, who decides to fire Krongstad. In response to being fired Krongstad sends a letter saying what Nora has done, Torvold then gets angry, but after receiving a second letter that explains the true situation about how Nora was influenced he is happy once again. However, Nora decides to leave the house.
There are two different kinds of people in this story, the ones who control the money in their lives, like Torvold, Dr.Rank and Cristine. Nora refers to Torvold “ my husband has been made manager of the bank” . This shows that he has an important job and is wealthy especially when she adds “it will be splendid to have heaps of money”, meaning her husband has a lot of money and she uses this to make her friend jealous. Torvold is in control, the boss as well as a wealthy man. Next we come upon Dr Rank whom they call “ a man of means”. Dr Rank is also wealthy and shows that like Torvold he does not have problems with money. Both men are able to control their money, they do not let the money influence their lives them and makes sound decisions. Cristine has freedom because now she has money . “ I had to provide for my two younger brothers.” Since she has money she is now able to help her family and take care of them adequately. In order to solve her problems she got married to a rich man instead of marrying her love. Women could not work at that time.
The Essay on A Dolls House Money Nora Torvald
A DOLL'S HOUSE Believe it or not money is a big thing in a couples relationship. One of the themes in the play, A Doll's House, was about money. In the play, money had a lot to do with the breaking of a relationship. The relationship was between Nora and Torvald a married couple. Their was a big thing that had to do with money that I will be discussing later in this essay. On page 5, Torvald is ...
There is the other group who are incompetent with money and money has influenced their lives. They do many different acts to get money even trying illegal methods of obtaining money. “Are you aware thats is a dangerous confession”. This shows that Nora has no idea how dangerous, it is for her get real money and she does not know anything about money laws. Krogstad mentions that he has committed a similar crime as Nora and has been in trouble for it in the past; he has lost all the respect he had. When Krogstad said that there “was nothing more or nothing worse than what you have done” ,he was showing that what he has done is same as what Nora has done to get money. He wanted it for his wife and she wanted it for her husband. The fact is that “ the law cares nothing about motives” makes Nora think even more deeply and see that she has committed a crime. She puts it this way “ then it must be a very foolish law”. “ I mean a tremendously big favor”. She even asks her friend Dr. Rank for money .She is doing anything to get money and that obsession is allowing the money to control her.
There are same judgments that are made by the first group of people. Dr.rank calls Krogstad “ morally diseased” they judge them only by the mistake he has done and the crime he had, which he couldn’t do anything else. “ he carries on various kinds of business” this shows that he is struggling for money. “ you are a child” Cristine says to Nora and show she is not aware of that she is a adult grown up and makes childish mistakes. “ you seemed to me to imply that with you might have been quite another man” she forgives Krogstad and between all these people she actually the one who puts the value of money away and forgives him. “spendthrifts” Torvald calls Nora, means she spends and doesnt care about the value of money. “criminal, layer” the adjectives that Torvald use to call Nora for her act when he got angry.
The Essay on Mrs Linde Torvald Nora Krogstad
Synopsis The play begins on Christmas Eve. Nora Torvald enters the living room carrying packages. Torvald Helmer, her husband, enters. He says that she shouldn't have spent so much on Christmas gifts. He says that they have to be careful with money for now, but that he got a promotion at the bank that will increase their quality of life. Helene, their maid, says that Dr. Rank has come to visit. ...
The second group have some judgements, the only time we see that Krogstad judges some one, “ I dont think I have been one of the worst” he judges him self and mentions that others do worst thing. “how did you know I have thought of that” is the part that Nora wanted to kill her self and Krogstad puts in a way to not hurt her. “what most people say or with what is found in books” she judges people and now she is not caring of they say and what are they going to do.
Dr.rank says about the money a, Nora gives up all the money and she wouldn’t allow Helmer to help her with money, money becomes the symbol of shallow of society At last Dr.rank when he is dying he compare sit to money like im going bankrupt and he puts money in the way that if you dont have money you can not do anything money is the most important he mentions he is dying now and he has nothing to do any more. We can also see this behaviour with Nora when she leaves the home and she goes away, she doesnt even want anymore money and she wants to find her self’s value. The people who have money and are well they dont judge people with their heart and the ones who dont have judge with their heart .the whole issue of money , the story is based on money and the society is very materialistic, society itself has superficial materialistic bases
Torvald, because of his position at the bank, can afford to sit in moral judgment on Krogstad and Mrs Linde, and decide which of them should be allowed a job. At that time women should have stayed home looking after their children they did not make money for their house. The money has an important affect on Torval’s behavior, he sees Nora as a his squirrel but when his position is in danger is totally different. Nora had borrowed money for Torvald’s sake, because he had been awfully seek. She gets the money from Torlvald to pay back Krogstad but she had not told Torvald about it. It has even affects on DR.rank he uses the metaphor of money to show that he is dying. The author uses money to show the human behavior. He uses money to show how they change during a short period. This issue has been achieved in the story by showing how the great couple’s behavior changes by feeling insecure.
The Report on Money Is Making People Maniac
This obsession, passion, dedication, action and addiction for money is making people maniac. Is that right??? Who is bad? How can you judge anyone? How can you decide about one’s nature and there character? How can you be so much sure about any person? Well some say that we decide and judge in the first move, popularly called as first impression is the last impression. But I guess the situation is ...
