* Peacefulness and tranquility are such precious commodities. As I look upon the undisturbed waters surrounding Nanette’s Cottage, I am reminded of simpler times in my own life. Some sixteen years ago I had the chance to lead a quieter existence – some might even say that it was during this period that I first learned the serenity that has become the essence of my art. It was during an extended stay in southern England that I first discovered that life moved at a kinder and gentler pace for those who would seek it. Our evening walks as a young family often led us to the cottages that lined the meandering stream at the center of our village. It was on one such walk that I discovered a cottage that in my mind would always be linked to my life partner, Nanette. “I would love to live in a cottage like that someday” Nanette had remarked at the time. Now, as we prepare for our 27th anniversary and the advent of my wife’s birthday, I at long last give to Nanette the gift of that cottage as in years past I have given painted cottages to my children.

* A key feature of Thomas Kinkade’s paintings are their glowing highlights and saturated pastel colors. Rendered in highly idealistic American scene painting values, his works often portray idyllic settings such as gardens, streams, stone cottages, lighthouses and Main Streets. His hometown of Placerville (where his works are omnipresent) is the inspiration of many of his street and snow scenes. He has also depicted various Christian themes including the Christian cross and churches.
* Thomas Kinkade has also received numerous awards for his art. The National Association of Limited Edition Dealers (NALED) named him Graphic Artist of the Year for eight consecutive years and the NALED Most Honored Artist in the past 25 years. He was a charter inductee, along with his hero Norman Rockwell, into the Bradford International Hall of Fame. He has been inducted into the California Tourism Hall of Fame, and was awarded the Veterans of Foreign Wars Commander in Chief Award in 1997. In addition, Thomas Kinkade is the only American artist to win two Founder’s Awards from the National Parks
Academy for the Arts.
In 2004, the University of California, Fullerton honored Thomas Kinkade with a retrospective exhibition of his work entitled Thomas Kinkade: Heaven on Earth.
Thomas Kinkade is the only artist to have been selected twice to paint the National Christmas Tree in honor of the Christmas Pageant of Peace in Washington, DC, and was also the selected artist to commemorate the Salt Lake City 2002 Olympic Winter Games and the 2002 World Series.
