September 11, 2001 was a day in history that no one will ever forget. This day marked the terrorist attacks on New York City, when multiple airplanes crashed into two very remarkable landmarks, the Twin Towers and the Pentagon. As the buildings slowly fell to the ground burning, people watched as many others life’s flashed before their eyes. This was just after the millennium had taken place, and people were busy enjoying life in the city, when out of nowhere, a terrorist attack happened.
People had no idea this was coming, and while many in the city saw it right in front of them the whole entire country watched it on the news wherever they may have been. These attacks were compared to the Pearl Harbor Attacks of 1941, one similarity being that the World Trade Center was at the heart of one of the world’s largest cities (Kaiser).
I remember this day, when I was sitting in my third grade classroom and my teacher got a call from the office. She started crying and right after she had gotten the news we were all sent home.
When I got home my TV was on and my mom was sitting in front of it crying. Though we did not have any family in New York, it was still a tragedy. We watched as the Twin Towers came crashing down and people jumping out. That day was a true tragedy that nobody will ever forget, however it has made our security, our people, and our country much stronger. This event was very important to those living in the era because it showed us what could happen and that there are terrorists who can get through our security system.
The Essay on Dining Facility People Attack Day
On September 11 th, I was working in an Army dining facility at Fort Leonard Wood. Like most Americans, the day of the terrorist attacks sticks out distinctly. It was a major event shared by all Americans. This attack seemed to have brought out a deep patriotic movement through out the entire United States, almost having the same impact that the Pearl Harbor attack had on the United States and its ...
This made our country aware that it needed tighter security. Transport Security Administration (TSA) says that approximately 1. 8 million passengers pass through our nation’s airports every day. TSA started handling the security right after 9/11 because before 9/11 private companies contracted with airlines or airports provided security. (“Traveler Information”).
Along with the limitations on bag size and liquids, there is also improved security on the aircrafts, such as the cockpit doors (where the pilots sit).
These doors are always locked and bulletproof. There are also air marshals whom fly randomly on the planes in case any trouble were to ever occur (Kaiser).
My mother became a flight attendant in 2006. My mom tells me how the flight crew operates when the pilots need to come out of the cockpit to go to the bathroom or to get something to eat and when the flight crew was trained they were trained to especially keep the pilots safe and secure.
The flight attendants will make up a safe-word for when the pilots need to come out to use the restroom and when the pilots call and use that safe-word the flight attendant will tell the other flight attendants and they will all come to the front of the plane. From there they use their drink cart to block the path from anyone else going to that bathroom and they will use their bodies to block everyone’s vision of the pilot. Though sometimes I still worry about my mom flying I know that the security prevents any type of terrorist attack from happening.
Another main consequence from September 11, 2001 was all of the emotional distress to the people. This affected millions of people throughout the world, and killed more than 3400 people, including the terrorists, rescuers, people inside the plane and buildings, and many more just in the city nearby the attacks (“September”).
Today, there may be a slight risk of flying, but the chances of an attack again are very slim. Every year on the September 11th Anniversary it is a time of remembrance to all of the people who lost their lives in this tragic event.
The Essay on Pay Disagreements Between Cathay Pacific Airways And Cathay’s Pilots And Flight Attendants
The issue that I am going to examine is the two pay disagreements between Cathay Pacific Airways and Cathay’s pilots and flight attendants. The Court of Final Appeal ruled that under the employment Ordinance, Cathy must include certain allowances and a commission in addition to the basic salary when calculating its cabin crew’s pay during statutory holidays and annual leave (Chiu, 2012, para. 3). ...
The anniversary is not only about those lost, but also about our men and women in uniform who have served and sacrificed to keep our country safe. It is a time to reflect on how far we have come as a nation. The survivors of this attack are a record of the confusion and courage and the unity and loss that make up our collective memory of that day. People in other countries were affected including some from Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and the soldiers whom are fighting for us in the other countries. For many positive and negative reasons, our people have grown stronger from this attack.
The September 11th attack not only made our people stronger but it also made our country stronger as a whole. People are a lot more knowledgeable then they were before, and know the little tricks that terrorists may try and use, but it is so strict and only getting stricter, that this should now restrict any attacks to happen. This affected George W. Bush, whom stated in his speech to congress, “Every nation in every region now has a decision to make: either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists,” (“September”).
This also not only affected him, but also all the future incoming presidents.
They may be frightened that this could happen again to them. During George W. Bush’s reign, he ordered a massive bombing campaign against Afghanistan, and his public arrival ratings were highest of his presidency at the time, reaching even 90% in some polls. As time goes by, security only gets stronger while new inventions come out to increase the system. History will never forget what happened the day of September 11, 2001, and it will be marked forever. The impact on today’s world that the attack has is remarkable. These attacks were tragic, however it has made our country, our people, and our security much stronger.
