To Kill A Mockingbird Comparative Essay
This essay will be talking about the differences and some similarities between the book and the movie To Kill A Mockingbird. There are many similarities between the book and movie To Kill A Mockingbird. The movie basically goes exactly by the book. You also find certain phrases from the book in the movie. I personally like that. But there are more information in the book then the movie and some important main ideas missing from the movie.
One example of a similarity that I find to be very crucial would be Tom Robinson’s death in an attempt to escape from prison in both the book and the movie. In my opinion Tom’s death was crucial to the original story because it created heartbreak, suffering, and loss which are crucial for any story line because it allows for a change in views and attitude between characters. It also shows the emotional side of characters which I think is also very important and creates almost sentimentality between the reader and the characters.
One crucial scene missing from the movie is when Jem and Scout go to church with Calpurnia. This is one of the most important in the book because you learn of the respect that many of the black people have for the Finches, since Atticus is defending Tom Robinson. You also learn that not every colored person is kind because Calpurnia gets into a fight with another lady at church defending Jem and Scout’s right to come to the black church. This shows you how much Calpurnia loves Jem and Scout. I think that this was left out in the movie because in the court case there is another example of how colored people respect Atticus; they all stand up when he walks out of the room. But in the movie, because the church scene is missing, it doesn’t seem that the blacks have as much respect for the Finches.
The Essay on Sir Henry Movie Book Stapleton
Imagine if you had to read about the Titanic, instead having the pleasure of watching it. Wouldn t it be boring That s why movies are preferred over books. Movies have everything. A s ance, romance and suspense are all parts of a good movie. Books can only help the reader imagine the plot, but the movie actually takes the reader there. The movie version of The Hound of the Baskervilles starring ...
Another very important role that was left out in the movie was Aunt Alexandria. By not having Aunt Alexandra around, you don’t get to see the more proper, Girlish side of Scout; you only get to see her tomboy side. Also, not having Aunt Alexandria means that there is no one to challenge Atticus’s authority; this creates for less conflict in the movie than the book. By leaving out Aunt Alexandra you don’t get to see how Jem and Scout act around another family member. This is really important because it could change what you think of Jem and Scout’s personalities. You might think they had only nice, sweet personalities in the movie – Basically Atticus’ little angels – but in the book you realize that they are just normal children who sometimes fool around and get in trouble all the same. Despite Aunt Alexandria’s role in the story, I think that she was left out for a good reason; because the movie would have been too long, since Alexandria had so many scenes.
The next important difference to me is the scene with the town drunk. To me this scene showed courage from that man because despite the people of Maycomb’s unwillingness to accept or even understand what he did, he still dared to publicize it in his own way. He also managed to find a way to make people slightly understand why he did it; he made them believe that he was basically always intoxicated. This also shows courage because he told the kids about everything; that he didn’t actually drink and that he actually loved that woman even though she was hated by most and different from the larger population. By telling the kids he risked being exposed and probably being punished for what he did since it was extremely unacceptable at the time. I think that this whole scene allowed the kids to realize how much corruption, despair, and heartbreak was caused from racism and a person’s ability to accept one-another even though they are the same inside.
The Term Paper on Snow Falling On Cedars Movie Book Read
Air, food, water, shelter, and fire are important elements of life for human brings. Without those elements humans could not possibly survive. Those are the obvious ones, but have you ever thought of something else that you couldnt live without When you answered that question did television, or books come to mind If they didnt then think again. Entertainment is a very important part of our ...
The last difference I will discuss is Mrs. Dubose. Mrs. Dubose did make a small appearance in the movie, but her role was extremely shortened from what it was originally in the book. Mrs. Dubose was a morphine addict and she played a huge role in Jem’s life. She constantly harassed Scout and Jem, insulted their father, and just made life miserable for them, she was very pessimistic. When Jem lost his temper one day, he took it out on Mrs. Dubose’s flower garden. His punishment from Atticus was to read to Mrs. Dubose every night to help her break her addiction. When she died, Atticus gave Jem a lesson in what it is to have courage. This entire scene was taken out of the movie. Atticus’ quote on courage was one of the most important things in the book, and although the movie was fine without it, I feel that the Mrs. Dubose scenes would have added a lot to the movie. I think that this scene was taken out because of time as for the reasoning of most cut-scenes.
To Kill A Mockingbird is a much better book than a movie. The book is much more descriptive and easier to understand. The movie is harder to understand because there is no narrative, like in the book. The book also tends to keep you interested waiting for something to happen. The movie moves to fast, and misses too many scenes. This makes the movie too predictable. It is easy to see what is going to happen. There are more differences between the movie and the book than similarities but I think that the movie was made the best it could have been while staying within a fairly strict time limit in order to make the movie not boring. In conclusion, the book is much more thorough than the movie.
The Essay on Mrs Dubose Jem People Scout
Harper Lee portrayed Mrs. Henry Lafayette Dubose in an unique style. Mrs. Dubose was a very ill woman who only has a nigger woman as company. Her illness had separated her from socializing with friends and had restricted her from doing things that normal women are doing. For instance, having afternoon tea with neighbors, or taking a night stroll with friends. Mrs. Dubose was a very straight ...
