A Nation of Finger Pointers Submitted by I. IDENTIFICATION OF ARTICLE. Article: A Nation of Finger Pointers. Author: Lance Morrow Magazine: Time Date: August 12, 1991 Pages: 14-15 II. SUMMARY OF ARTICLE. The moral images of self-sufficiency and stoicism that were key in the foundation of this country have been replaced by the bossy busybody and the spineless crybaby.
The busybody is a character that tells everyone how to lead their lives. He / she are the people responsible for political correctness and all of those worthless media reports on what is good for you and what is bad for you. The crybaby is a gutless character who takes no responsibility for his/ her actions and is always the victim of injustice. These are the kind of people who sue fast-food restaurants for millions of dollars because they are too much of an airhead to secure a hot cup of coffee before pulling away from the drive-through window. The author s bias towards these topics is of anyone with the notion of decency and common sense.
He is fed up with nonsense created by these people and believes that we, as a country, need to return to the ideals of self-reliance, autonomy, and responsibility. III. APPLICATION TO LIFE. This article has many applications to my life. First, everyone at one time or another has probably been a busybody and / or a crybaby.
Minimizing or even nullifying these characteristics would be a lifetime goal of mine. Second, I have to deal with crybabies and busybodies on a daily basis everywhere I go. It is very bothersome that at any point in the day I could be reprimanded for not being politically correct and / or cause someone to become a victim of injustice. IV.
The Term Paper on Catcher In The Rye Holden Life People
Part one: 1. Holden s Hunting cap: His hat is something that makes him stand out from the crowd and society. To Holden, wearing his hat says that he s not going to be like all the rest of the phonies. It s also something that he really likes and he constantly talks about it being different. On page 22 he refers to his hat as a people shooting hat, meaning he shoots people down when he wears it ...
STUDENT OPINION. There is not a sentence in this article that I disagree with. I fully believe that all of these crybabies and busybodies need to do some introspection. Self-reliance and responsibility need to once again become admirable traits.
Intolerance and irresponsibility need to be faded out. This will phase out political correctness and over litigation. I highly recommend this article be read. Many of the points in this article have bothered me about myself and others for the last 5 to 6 years. It has made me think alot about taking more responsibility for my actions.
