Abstract- In this paper we design a simple microstrip patch antenna having rectangular shape. A good impedance matching condition between the line and patch without any additional matching elements depends heavily on the antenna parameters. The patch is designed to resonate over the frequency 10 GHz. The current and field distributions have been examined. The frequency domain characteristics such as return loss, impedance curve and smith chart have also been analyzed. The results of both the software IE3D and HFSS, have been compared and analyzed.
Key Words- Microstrip Patch Antenna, IE3D, HFSS, Return Loss, Bandwidth.
I. Introduction[1]
Microstrip patch antennas are increasing in popularity for their use in wireless applications due to their low-profile structure. Hence, they are extremely compatible for embedded antennas in handheld wireless devices such as cellular phones, pagers etc. The telemetry and communication antennas on missiles need to be thin and conformal and are often micro strip patch antennas. Another area where they have been used successfully is in satellite communication.
A. Project description
The paper is about designing a Microstrip patch antenna. Physically it consists of a radiating patch on one side of a dielectric substrate which has a ground plane on the other side as shown in Figure 1. The patch is generally made of conducting material such as copper or gold and can take any possible shape. The radiating patch and the feed lines are usually photo etched on the dielectric substrate.
