A story in my life
Stories have been told from generation to generation, some families use stories in different context than others. Some families use stories to entertain, touch someone, or to help you learn some sort of life lesson. story telling has dated far back in time, it began as people singing and chanting while doing tasks to keep themselves entertained. In my family stories are told because of two different main reasons. One of them is to entertain one another, and another reason is to try and help someone not make a mistake that you once have made. My father has always told stories of all the bad things he has done over his life time. He always preaches to us so we won’t do the same things he did. Whenever someone in the family does something bad that they are not suppose to, my dad always has some type of life story for us to learn from. For instance my brother is always getting in legal trouble such as DUIs, driving without insurance and driving without a license.
Whenever one of these situations occur my father always tells stories about how we can avoid these situations by listening to the lesson he learned from getting in legal trouble from getting a few DWIs. When my father was in his 30s-40s he use to drink and drive a lot, so he got pulled over a few times and got charged with driving while intoxicated. For most of my childhood life, my father did not have a driver’s license. My father hopes to help us with his stories. This is a huge reason why families tell stories most of the time. From all the preaching my father has done all these years I would not dare get behind the wheel and drive drunk and I avoid doing anything bad.

The other way my family tells stories are for entertainment. Sometimes when we are on a long car trip my mother likes to tell funny and sad stories from her childhood. At these times of story telling my family all bonds (which isn’t a normal thing with my family).
We all reminisce about the good times and bad times we have all had together. She talks about funny things that have happened with her and her siblings and friends as kids, in which some of it we can relate to. But sometimes she tells funny stories about us when we were babies and kids that is sometimes humiliating or embarrassing. I guess that is another reason why families story tell, sometimes to get a laugh at someone else’s expense.
My mother often likes to tell the story about how my brother use to put cheese my head when I was a baby because he thought it was funny. This for him is embarrassing because he doesn’t like me and hates to be reminded that we were once friends as children. My mom likes to remind us all of the good times we had as kids and she tries to tell us that since we were once friends we can be friends again. I guess it’s kind of a way of her saying that
Story telling has a major impact on everyone’s lives. Every family tells stories about what has happened in their lives and the lives of others to help you get a glimpse of what to do or what not to do. Stories have been told in my family since I could remember.
