Abuse within the family has been going on for hundreds of years. A long time ago, abuse was not looked at like such a bad thing. Women were supposed to obey their husbands without any questions asked. Today abuse is very common still although society now knows that it is wrong and not acceptable.
Women and children are abused every day. Statistically, one out of four women will be abused by a partner at least once in their lives. Men who abuse their wife are more likely to abuse their children. There are many reasons why people are abused but research cannot pinpoint one concrete reason such as there is a bad gene in the body. People believe that alcohol plays a big role because in almost half of abuse cases there is alcohol involved. Stress is another factor that may play a huge part in it.
Every social class has some form of stress and it is not exclusively for the poor or the wealthy. It is an epidemic on the rise and needs to be stopped. Doctors feel that they may play a big part in educating and putting an end to some abuse. They feel that if more questioning a patient receives the more they may feel to opening up. The questioning needs to be kind and understanding. The patient needs to feel very comfortable in order to talk.
Some patients just need someone to ask them. They may be willing to open up right there. Other people feel that raising alcohol prices may lessen the abuse. I think that this may cause more stress, which can also lead to abuse in the lower classes. Stress, alcohol, and past experiences can all make a person do horrible things. There needs to be a way to educate these people and make them understand it is not acceptable..
