Medical system overutilization involves the act of physicians within various care institutions offering medical attention and services in unnecessary ways. T his leads to an abuse of systems specifically designed to meet health care expectations of the population. There are various organizations that have devoted themselves in provision of medical system with an aim of improving people’s lives, through means of helping medical professionals convey the best patient care. Medical system continually endeavors to be accountable, flexible and explicitly oriented to the entire healthcare organizations. Many doctors today are carrying out too much testing and following many procedures for the sake of just surviving leading to overutilization of the medical system (Robinson 2008).
One main form of overutilization of medical system is the use of medical services through new technologies for non curative purposes. They avoid lawsuits by raising the cost of medical service to cover the unwarranted costs. In the recent world, there is communal greed among the medical institutions. The doctors are aiming at providing as many services as possible daily so as to get prompt pre-payment for the services they offer. This has resulted to wide overutilization of the medical system. There are effects associated with abuse of medical system. For instance, the prescription by doctors to use marijuana as a therapeutic drug for those suffering from AIDS and other mental disorders is abusive. This is on the basis of the fact that the drug is known to have side effects on health, brain and memory. The implementation of improved technology to enhance the medical system makes the concerned organization to suffer financially as they are not certain of the output of the investment. If abuse of the medical system happens, the costs will increase and the concerned medical outlets suffer from lack of adequate finance. In addition, overutilization of medical system affects patient’s physical heath, stress-related disorders and death (Weiner, 2003).

This happens when a physician fails to follow the correct prescription when treating a patient. There are also cases of increased overutilization of care beds and other services as a result of the policies being put in place of prominence inpatient care over ambulatory care. Rates of non-severe admissions and continued stay are practiced in most of the hospitals. The reasons behind this is lack of an ambulatory care, unadventurous physician practice, delays in deliverable planning and other societal factors such as long travel distances to the hospitals. These practices have exposed extensive overutilization of acute medicine and surgical beds. To assist in curbing this overutilization of medical system, several peer review committees have been formed in various countries in order to examine utilization practices of doctors. One of the main goals of these committees is to recover the overpayments which are incurred as a result of unnecessary medical attention and dissuade physicians against overutilization of medical system. Physicians are also educated about the right quantities of specific medication ordered and prescribed to the targeted patients. Clinical operations and community outreach give a hand to ensure the cohesiveness of the effort. The implementation of psychological interventions can also save the medical costs. This includes treatment of various forms of psychotherapy, behavioral medicine and psychiatric consultation (Sage, 2003).
Laboratory’s computerized reporting system must be maintained in every hospital in order to effectively detect and measure overutilization of the laboratory and thus cost savings can be realized from improved laboratory utilization. The repeated overutilization of medical system should be keenly checked and addressed through establishment of liable care organizations. References Robinson, W. (2008).
