Addiction can occur more easily to some individuals than others. Not only is it the addictive power of the substance, may it be drugs, alcohol, or even caffeine, but it is also depends on the individual and the individual’s environment. Humans have always had a curiosity in experimenting with things that alter them both mentally and physically. It is just human nature. This is how many addictions occur, mainly drug and alcohol addiction.
There is an array of different drugs, prescription and non-prescription. Addiction can occur in a number of ways. If and individual is using prescription drugs, such as Ritalin, and they are taking doses higher than recommended they can become dependant on the drug. If they abruptly stop taking the drug or dramatically lower the doses they may become depressed and feel extremely fatigued. To counter these symptoms they continue using the harmful drug to make them feel what they think is normal but is actually increasing their dependence on the drug.
Non-prescription drugs are usually experimented with in adolescence, probably because this is when many people are most insecure and experience the most peer pressure. From my experiences I have noticed that teens feel the need to fit in and if it is “cool” to experiment with drugs than many insecure teens will do it. Most teens can quit after experimenting with drugs for a while but some can’t. Of course it depends on the harshness of the drug, but even with the lesser addictive drugs such as marijuana a person can get addicted. Then people can sometimes become too disoriented to deal with reality.

Heroine is probably the most addictive drug and the drug that has claimed most lives. Heroine is a form of morphine. Morphine, named after Morpheus, the Greek god of dreams. It is widely publicized by the media and the most famous drug probably because of all the famous people that have been killed by it possibly making the drug more attractive. Media both reflect and influence our society, and can influence our views on drugs such as heroine. Young people associate drugs and alcohol with fame and feel could make them “more creative” or more like their idols, for example musicians Jimi Hendrix, Elvis Presley and comedian Chris Farley.
Caffeine is a drug but not a widely talked about one. The caffeine that naturally occurs in coffee causes the boost that most people get in the morning. Caffeine is a very common stimulant not only found in coffee or tea but also in soft drinks and over the counter in pill form. Nobody thinks they’re addicted to coffee but millions are and they don’t realize it. Too much caffeine can cause anxiousness, headaches, and the twitching. A person who abruptly stops drinking coffee may experience withdrawal symptoms similar to many other drugs. People just disregard this and just think of it as a minor craving for coffee, but what they are actually craving is the drug.
Addiction has neither a single cause nor a simple cure. Many times people are unaware of their addiction because there isn’t always a fine line between having a dependence on the substance and just normal use. Addiction always starts with just a little innocent curiosity but then can end up in a full-blown addiction
