Because of consumer demand, the general development in technology has increased, electronics in the twentieth century have had major improvements and are extremely common amongst society. There is much evidence to back up my point, starting with the advancement of the first radio/televisions in the 19th century. Moreover, the development of the phone is also apparent in the 21st century. Lastly, I will talk about the main cause of this development; consumer demand. These are all points supporting or explaining why the general development in technology in the Twentieth century have had major improvements and are now extremely common.
The advancement of the radio/television since the 19th century is proof of the development in technology now in the twentieth century. The first FM radio was invented in 1933 by Edwin Howard Armstrong, they were not given practical use until in 1947, the transistor was invented and still they were extremely uncommon for people to have. (Great Achivements) In the 1950s, engineers designed cathode-ray tube for television monitors. Finally in 1968, 200 million television sets were in operation worldwide. In 1978, 98% of American homes owned a television yet with 78 percent owning a color with broadband availability in mainly urban areas. Now in the twentieth century, there is 100% broadband availability in urban areas and about 85% in rural areas, this is a major improvement especially in rural areas. The quality of television sets has also improved in the twentieth century with the development of LCD, HD and even 3D television sets. Not to mention that TVs are found in every household and are a common-everyday item now. This advancement on television has impacted Canada so it is more reliant on television or technology in general for things like news, entertainment or work. That is how there was a major advancement of the radio/television since the 19th century and how it impacted Canada.

Furthermore, the development of phones is proof of the general development in technology leading to what we have now in the twentieth century. The telephone was first invented by Alexander Graham Bell in the 1870s. (About) Then the first Bell telephone company was incorporated in 1878. Phone owners however, would still have to put up their own lines to use them. Nearly a century later in 1970, the first cordless phones were introduced, they were rather expensive and service was not very stable until 1986 the Federal Communications Commission or FCC granted more frequency range for cordless phones. Now in the twentieth century, 85% of Canadian households own cellular phone that is a major increase from the 19th century. Not only has the number of people using cellular phones increased in the twentieth century, but cell phones were revolutionized by people like Steve Jobs or the Blackberry company. Typical cell phones these days are basically powerful, yet small computers that can help our lives in many ways. This has affected Canada and is a defining moment because it made Canadians more reliant on yet another electronic for work, entertainment or organization. This was also a defining moment because with more and more phone users Apple, revolutionized phones and created the iPhone which introduced touch screens. The development of cellular phones in the twentieth century support my point on how there was a general development in technology and how electronics are more common.

Lastly, a defining moment relating to the development and advancement of technology was the release of motion-recognizing technology. This was revolutionary because it inspired a groups of people who can be categorized as “video gamers”, who normally are not physically active, to become physically active. They get to do what they love doing (playing video games) while getting some important physical activity. The WII was the main stream motion-recognizing game console and it lead to the release of the Xbox Kinect or the Play Station Move. The defining release of motion-recognizing technology changed Canada by making “video gamers” more physically active and thus more healthy.
What is the cause of all this development and advancement of technology? The answer is consumer demand. Studies show, consumer demand has been skyrocketing in the twentieth century because of new products being constantly released and one revolutionizing technology such as the iPad, iPhone or the WII. Those are all products that have revolutionized technology with innovative features such as touch/motion control. With computers and phones being such good tools for organization, entertainment and other things, consumer demand has skyrocketed specifically for them. What this increase in consumer demand means that more and more people want it, so companies rush to come up with new innovative ideas to market and hopefully make money off of. That is the cause of this sudden increase of general development and advancement of technology.
In conclusion, because of consumer demand, the general development and advancement of technology has increased in the twentieth century, electronics have also become extremely common amongst everyone. The advancement of the radio/television is proof of this. The development of the phone first invented by Alexander Graham Bell is also proof of this. This advancement is caused by consumer demand. Consumer demand has revolutionized our lives by making us more reliant on technology, and challenging companies to constantly create innovative ideas to satisfy us.
