affirmative action is an attempt by the United States to correct a long history of racial discrimination. It is an extremely ineffective plan to equalize minorities and majorities in the work place and in colleges and universities. It is reverse discrimination and minorities have been given an unfair advantage when it comes to jobs and education. In this paper I will discuss about how I am against affirmative action. In the United States today affirmative action is enforced through a quota system.
Federal employees, many private businesses, and colleges and universities must account for whom they hire or admit. One setback of this idea is that people, who belong to a minority, do not have to work as hard to attain the same job as other people. This causes them to not try as hard in their job, be less productive, and be more expensive to their employers. One of the biggest problems of racial quotas is that the employer is forced to compromise his / her work place in order to fill a quota. Employees often are hired that are not qualified to execute their jobs effectively. Many times employers are forced to find the best minority, rather than the person most qualified for the job.
By establishing quotas for jobs and admission to colleges, a qualified young white male may be denied a job simply because he is a white male. Affirmative action is nothing but reverse racism. Its goal is to see that everyone gets the same chance but it is completing just the opposite. I believe the person with the superior skills and qualities should get the job not the person of the required gender, race, or age.
