Retirement in Asian hospitality industry is determined by the age of the employees. This retirement regulation of Asia hospitality industry is different from the regulations that we discern in Europe where as long as the employees are able to contribute to their organizations, they are allowed to continue to work. While in the case of Asia, when the employees reach a particular age, then they are compelled to retire. Perhaps, the problem of ever-increasing population might have forced the authorities to insist on a particular age of retirement in Asia However, in a specialized area such as hospitality industry, there is need to encourage really efficient employees as it is not easy to obtain and train younger generation in the hospitality field. We would suggest that in Asia, hospitality industry should imitate the policy of Europe regarding the retirement of employees of an organization.
Now scholars have argued that age cannot be considered as a barrier in any field. For instance, many goods are manufactured and marketed for the people who are above 40 years of age, which can be considered as middle age. It is said that age of body does not necessarily affect the spirit and intellect of the individuals. (Goulding and Shankar, 2004)
In Europe, the governments have taken necessary measures to avoid discrimination of employees based on various factors including age. In fact, government of UK has given the directive regarding the necessary steps to be taken to ensure equal treatment of the employees. In UK, there are various kinds of retirement such as contractual retirement, pension retirement and actual retirement. The government recently proposed to insist on mandatory retirement age. However, it has been argued that this proposal does not affect the actual retirement age of employees and that this would only affect the contractual retirement. It is argued by some that those employees who are above 50 years are not able to work efficiently. However, this is not supported by the data. (Sargeant, 2003)

However, it is found that in certain situations in practice, age acts as a barrier. This is seen particularly when the older people search for jobs. It is suggested that employers usually prefer the younger generation instead of older people. This is because there are few assumptions relating to older people. For instance, some employers believe that it is difficult to train the older people in specialized fields such as health and that the older people are slow to master the new technology. Therefore, the older generation is forced to compete with the young people. In spite of this, there are large number of old people who have proved their capacity and they have contributed significantly to the growth of their organization. (Brosi and Kleiner) In the wake of the above information and discussion, we may suggest that in Asia also age should not be barrier in hospitality industry.
Conclusion
In the modern age of improved medical facilities, age should not be barrier for employees in the organizations. Those who have capacity to contribute to their associations should be given extension of service. Hence, we would suggest that the Asian hospitality should follow the example of European governments in giving equal opportunity to the employees.
