In this essay I am going to discuss one of the major problems the world is facing today and that is population explosion. After the world war two the world’s population enlarged enormously, owing to improvement in living facilities and development in science and technology, which resulted in increased birth rate, and decrease in neonatal mortality and morbidity. This dramatic rise in population in last century is causing problems for the health and economical status of not only the poor countries, but also for the developed and developing nations. One of the biggest problems caused by over population is food and water shortage. As the countries with limited resources are not able to meet the demands of this increased number. This will lead to malnutrition and diseases such as kwashiorkor and marasmus in younger children, and eventually it will be resulted in famines.
The second major problem especially in developing countries like Pakistan is unemployment. This has very bad effect on country’s economy with so much manpower is not working for the welfare of the country. Young people have no opportunities in rural areas and they migrate to cities. As result cities are overcrowded and most of these people live in slum areas in city suburbs, where they live in small rooms in large groups and no proper sanitation and ventilation. This is causing severe health problems like tuberculosis, skin diseases, as well as psychological problems like depression anxiety and psychosis.

Thirdly, this alarming increase in population will result in lack of education in the new generation, as the governments will not have enough budget or fund to provide education to every child. Many children will not able to go to school or get basic education. This will be resulted in a further increase in crime rate and juvenile delinquency. In developing and Undeveloped countries where child labor is already a big issue, this lack of education and increase in population will enhance it more. Finally it will cause an increase in environmental pollution, over crowdedness will causes traffic problems, accidents, famines, draughts and global warming. Improper waste disposal will lead to great disaster in developed countries where consumption is more than waste management facilities.
My suggestion is that we should launch an effective and worldwide population control programme, with the help of WHO and UNICEF. This programme should have full support of political religious leaders of each country. Media should support this programme through its coverage in newspaper and on television, in this way more people will know about this programme and its benefits. family planning centers must be countrywide and fully equipped so that both rural and urban population will get benefit, and trained staff must be provided to run these centers. Teams who will go door to door to encourage people and convince them about the benefits of family planning should promote this programme. In conclusion this enormous increase in global population is a serious threat to worlds economy and resources and we should develop awareness among our people to control it through family planning..
