What is important, and should be valued, is the feeling of inspiration that Americans get when they sing this song.
We as Americans are free people, and we should also sing our National Anthem as freely as we can. The “Star-Spangled Banner” is not at all offensive to anyone. What is sung in this song happened in the past and does not serve the purpose of offending any one nation. The diction is perfectly chosen, each word stresses much style and expression. The whole song is expressed with much emotion and enthusiasm. I must admit that there was a time when I didn’t know the meaning of some of the words that the National Anthem contains.
