The age of discovery and the scramble for africa are two movements involving the major European powers for the exploratiom and the colonization of africa. The age of discovery took place around the 16 century, while the scramble for africa took place in the 19th century. The major difference between these two movements was that the first one, the age of discovery was a movement, as the name explains to explore Africa and other continents too. It wasn’t a totally military movement but it was very important for trade. Africa was and is a very fertile land, and there are many resources that in europe don’t exist. The scramble for africa is a totally militarist race for the control of africa, not only for trading reasons but basically because it was the period before the start of the first world war and colonies were immportant.
The age of discovery has a very different view towards empire than the scramble for africa mainly because the objectives of the Europan powers were different. Colonize for the land, and to be competitive among European powers is very different to colonize and explore for enconomic interset. These two big differences will bring a very different view towards empire. In the first age of colonization, European colonizors focused on what could the land offer. It is important to remember that we are in a period known as industrial revolution in europe, therefore having colonies that could bring goods was very important.
The main focus was on goods, therefore the empire was not the most important thing, but it was probably so by the native africans in a negative way. First of all, Europeans were much more developed than africans, secondly because of slavery. It is in this periond in which slavery begins, it is the start of the triangle that will bring slaves to europe from africa and south america. This is the main reason of whay the empire was seen negatively by africans. From the other point of view, the European one, the empire and the colonies are seen in a positive way. It is an easy way to bring goods and slaves to Europe so that people, Europeans, don’t have to work into industries and have mostly to work in different roles, more important ones.
The Term Paper on Africa European Imperialism
European Imperialism European Imperialism European expansion was almost a certainty. The continent was relatively poor place for agriculture, which pushed Europeans outside of Europe in search of new soil. Different countries sent explorers, like Columbus and Magellan, to find unknown trade routes to India and Asia. They stumbled onto new sources for raw materials and goods and Europe was suddenly ...
Speaking now about the scramble for Africa, we have to say that empire was seen in a different way from both the points of view. First of all, colonizors now have an interset in both land, because of an economic reason, and in the continent in general becuse it is now a race with other European powers. This made the empire view different. Native africans still view it in a different way because being colonized is never nice, but european troops make the empire be seen in a different way also because they treat them badly because of their race. The question is: how does the middle aged man living in france or england view empire?
Differently from the age of discovery he probably views it in a more negative way. There is no big reason for colonizing that piece of land in this time, if not because of the race. First of all, there is no reason because with the idustrialization that has happened in europe, all goods can be find there. Secondly, a big reason could be oil, but at that time they didn’t know about th existance of oil under all of that sand, therefore, an ordinary man living in this times couldn’t view empire in a totally positive way, but people would for sure ask themselves why are the our troops fighting in africa.

African hair sculpture is what they call it and Africa and to them it is an art. Africans hardly ever leave their hair or their body plain or in the book, it says "natural" state. The scramble for africa and the age of exploration are two periods in which the nist important thing is colonialism. Even though having colonies is seen in a positive way by europe at that time, probably the empire wasn’t seen so positively. Different eras, different objectives bring differnt views of events and things. The empire at that time was surely seen negatively by native people, but while in the age of discovery colonies were seen in a positive way because they brought goods and slavery, in the scramble for africa colonies were seen as war and a lot of sand, therefore the view of empire was negative.
