Analytical Essay
This term our class novel that we have read was Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson. I enjoyed reading the novel because it had great themes and qualities. Between Jesse Oliver Aarons and Leslie Burke’s family there were great differences in them Leslie’s family was more creative than Jesses.
Jesse was tiptoeing out the front door and he was thinking about his family. Then suddenly Maybelle came into his mind. “… She worshipped him …”. This shows that he may not think much about his older sisters but he thinks Maybelle is ok.
Jesse was in his room thinking about Christmas and how that this year Maybelle needed to get a special gift. “Somehow this year Maybelle needed something special” Jesse thought even though Jesse may find Maybelle annoying at times, he still feels a special bond and wants to get her a present.
Jesse and Leslie are in Terabithia and talking about her dad’s bond with Leslie and how he will fix the house first and write in his own time. “Her dad promised Leslie that … he would stay home and finish the house … and only write in his spare time”. This shows family because Leslie’s dad is willing to put aside his career for the love of his family and Leslie to make them happy.
Jesse came home from a day out with Mss Edmunds all happy and joyful. Then his dad told him that Leslie had died. He felt a piece of himself die when “His father looked up I’m real sorry boy”. Jesse’s dad never showed his feelings for his son until now.

This term I enjoyed reading Bridge to Terabithia because it showed good family qualities. Such as when Leslie died Jesse’s dad showed alot of love for him. My main point is that the two families are so different but they love their children so much. Also Jesse may think that Maybelle is an annoying, complaining little kid but he still loves her and admires how she looks up to him.
