Thinking back into history, many important events have occurred in history since the publication of 1984 by George Orwell in 1949. In no specific order there would be the Holocaust, The creation of the United Nations, NATO (North Atlantic treaty Organization), and even The Iron Curtain being established. After 1984 was published huge events also occurred in history. There was the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Korean war, the Vietnam War, the creation of the Berlin Wall, and the destruction of the Berlin wall, Joseph Stalin dies, and Khrushchev gains power… etc, etc. No matter when a book is published the events in history will always surround it, such as this book.
The Holocaust represents 11 million lives that abruptly ended, the extermination of people not for who they were but for what they were. Groups such as handicaps, Gypsies, homosexuals, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Catholics, Poles, Soviet prisoners of war, political dissidents and others were persecuted by the Nazis because of their religious / political beliefs, physical defects, or failure to fall into the Aryan ideal. The Holocaust was lead by a man named Adolf Hitler who was born in 1889, and died in 1945. The United Nations was established in 1945 by 51 countries committed to preserving peace through international cooperation and collective security. Today, nearly Davis 2 every nation in the world belongs to the United Nations. The United Nations has four purposes: to maintain international peace and security; to develop friendly relations among nations; to cooperate in solving international problems and in promoting respect for human rights; and to be a center for harmonizing the actions of nations.
The Term Paper on International Response To The 2nd Civil War In Sudan
A critical look at history shows that civil wars are not recent phenomena; they have existed for centuries. The biggest question that lingers in many minds is the reason why people opt for violence instead of using cultured ways of resolving conflicts. Even in the 21st century, civil wars are still a thorn in the flesh of governments, regional and international players. In reference to this fact, ...
The United Nations is not a world government though, and it does not make laws. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is an alliance of 26 countries from North America and Europe committed to fulfilling the goals of the North Atlantic Treaty signed on April 4 1949. The fundamental goal of NATO is to safeguard the freedom and security of its member countries by political and military means. NATO links North America and Europe by providing a forum in which the United States, Canada and European countries can consult together on security issues of common concern and take joint action in addressing them. The Iron Curtain is a Western term referring to an imaginary boundary which divided Europe into two separate areas of political influence and ideology from the end of World War II until the end of the Cold War.
The countries east of the Iron Curtain were under the political influence of the Soviet Union. This countries to the east of the Iron Curtain joined the Warsaw Pact. The countries to the west of the Iron Curtain were ruled by democratic governments. Most states to the West of the Iron Curtain were allied with the United States and NATO.
After the publication of Orwell’s 1984, was the Cuban missile crisis. In 1962, a major cold war confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union occurred. The USSR increased its support of Fidel Castro’s Cuban regime, and in the summer of 1962, Nikita Khrushchev (President of the USSR) secretly decided to install ballistic missiles in Cuba. When the US investigation flights revealed the concealed construction of missile launching sites, Davis 3 President Kennedy publicly brought to justice the Soviet actions. He imposed a naval blockade on Cuba and declared that any missile launched from Cuba would result in a full-scale unforgiving attack by the United States against the Soviet Union. Russian ships carrying missiles to Cuba turned back, and when Khrushchev agreed to withdraw the missiles and dismantle the missile sites, the crisis ended as suddenly as it had begun.

The United States ended its blockade on November 20, 1962 and by the end of the year the missiles and bombers were removed from Cuba. The Korean War was a conflict between Communist and non-Communist forces in Korea in 1950, to 1953. At the end of World War II, Korea was divided at the 38 th parallel into Soviet (North Korean) and U. S. (South Korean) zones of occupation. In 1948 rival governments were established: The Republic of Korea was proclaimed in the South and the People’s Democratic Republic of Korea in the North.
The Vietnam War was a conflict in Southeast Asia, primarily fought in South Vietnam between government forces aided by the United States and guerrilla forces aided by North Vietnam. It’s not a war I know much about but I do know that it occurred after the publication of 1984. The Berlin Wall was constructed in 1961 and was the first wall of its kind. It trapped people in their own country. Communist propaganda said the wall was built to shield East Berliners from capitalist philosophies. But the Berlin Wall cut through the city’s heart separating families and friends, and preventing people from getting to their jobs.
The fall of the Berlin Wall occurred in 1990. President Ronald Reagan visited Berlin and urged Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev to tear down the Berlin Wall. In 1989 Hungarian government opened the borders for East German refugees. The Berlin Wall is Davis 4 opened in 1989 and the wall fell in 1990. Germany is reunited. I just wanted to note the death of Stalin.
Nikita Khrushchev then takes power, and soon denounces the Stalin era. The Korean conflict ends also. Throughout history and even part of everyday life, George Orwell’s predictions come true.
