Ang Paglilitis ni Mang Serapio is a paradigm of an Absurdist Play. It could also be that the actions and efforts of the protagonist are all bound to falter in the end, like Mang Serapio conspired by the corrupt heads of the Federacion.
The first accusation made to Mang Serapio was his efforts to nourish a child, which was eventually proven wrong. Unlike his co-existences in the society of beggars, he held knowledge about legal authorities who are capable of razing what anomalies were played by the likes of the Federacion heads.
Unfortunately, his awareness to the matter is what also led him to his blinding as he attempted to enlighten the mass of what injustices were recurring, and spark within them the idea of being able to hope for a much better life. The story is basically an allegory of the grotesque realities of the Philippine government, that there will always be the corrupt and the cheated.
