Our case is that if we don’t test on animals then progress in scientific fields would be halted. As first speaker for the negative I will speak about the benefits of animal testing in general and then I’ll talk in detail about animal testing in medicine. My second speaker will talk about the opinions on testing and the food chain and my third speaker will summarise our points and rebut. Safety tests are conducted on a wide range of chemicals and products, including drugs, vaccines, cosmetics, household cleaners, pesticides, foodstuffs, and packing materials. Higher order animals are used in research, teaching and testing because of the benefits they bring to both animals and people.
Those benefits are the reasons why a research, teaching or testing procedure is done in the first place. Research using animals has various broad aims which include: Safety tests are conducted on a wide range of chemicals and products, including drugs, vaccines, cosmetics, household cleaners, pesticides, foodstuffs, and packing materials. Research using animals has various broad aims which include: Improving the health and well-being of people. Improving the health, welfare and productivity of farm animals and other production animals. Finding better ways to preserve protect and manage a range of animal species to maintain a balance that is ecologically stable. Developing more humane and effective pest control methods to protect endangered animals and many more.
Animal Testing Research Paper
Abstract With animal testing, the killing and harming innocent animals, being around for centuries with little change, will exploiting the facts that the public does not know about, help put an end to all the product and medication testing on animals? Introduction Animal testing has been around for centuries, when it really should be one of those “cruel memories” of things we have done in the ...
Doctors, nurses, animal care personnel, veterinarians, farmers, conservation managers, teachers, zoo keepers and others engaged in animal-related activities all benefit in animal research to broaden their knowledge. Testing is done as a check on the safety of new drugs or substances for human or animal use, and to check whether new batches of drugs and other agents like vaccines work. There is a legal requirement to test how safe and effective chemicals, drugs and other agents are before they can be sold. Animals have played a major part in medical breakthroughs.
Such as the development of anesthetics, which are the chemicals used to make you unconscious during an operation… Before that surgery was little more than refined butchery. Amputations, removal of bladder stones, caesarean sections and others – were done with the conscious patient strapped to the operating table and screaming. Speed during the operation was important to reduce the period of agony and terror.
Controlling blood loss was attempted by cautery using hot irons or boiling oil or tar. Imagine if you were the patient. The screams as flesh and bone were cut with scalpel and saw, and the sizzle and stench of burning as the stumps of amputated limbs were plunged into boiling oil. The ability to safely cause unconsciousness, and maintain it, using the first general anaesthetic’s was a key event which began the transformation of surgery from the bloody race against the clock it used to be into the refined, sophisticated and successful activity it usually is today. The discovery of a range of other general anaesthetic’s which are safer were developed with animal testing and hold many benefits to both animals & people. Other medical areas that benefited from animal testing are antiseptics, asepsis and antibiotics vaccines and much much more.
Thank god for animal testing or we would still be using old methods of treating wounds by burning flesh and infecting people. It is all about choice on testing on animals. We can choose to let a few lab rats run free or give some pain relief to a loved one. Thank You. web.
