Application for Admission to Veterinary School Essay You become responsible forever for what you’ve tamed. This highly philosophical quote from The Little Prince written by the French writer Antoine de Saint-Exupery had a great impact on me in childhood. I have always cared so much about pets. I felt that as they cannot speak, they need someone who truly cares, who will speak for them and step up and see that they are taken a good care of. That is why the quote from The Little Prince became the motto of my life, it brought up my love and sense of responsibility for my pets and defined my choice of future career. I would like to choose a profession of a veterinarian doctor which I find interesting and very challenging at the same time. When I was a child I had many pets at home and I always took much care of them following the principle of my motto.
My first pet was a beautiful cat that I liked for her independence and outstanding intelligence. At the same time she was very loyal and was a real friend of mine. We were very close energetically and could understand the needs and wishes of each other without words. Unfortunately I lost this cat, because it suffered from cancer. And what can be harder than a loss of a friend? Till her last days I looked after my cat desperately trying to help her, but nothing could be done. Since that time I promised myself to acquire necessary knowledge and devote my life to investigation of the problem of cancer to help animals mitigate their pain and sufferings.

At the same time I am sure I will greatly help people who suffer even harder when their best friends die. Though I adore cats immensely, my love for pets was not limited to these animals only. As I grew, my outlook broadened and I realized that I felt real enjoyment handling with various animals and helping them when they were sick or in pain. Such interaction with animals fostered my deep interest in them. I was amazed by loyalty and devotion of dogs, ingenuity and companionship of birds and furry animals. And what is more significant, I understood their importance in the life of people. My love for animals stimulated my desire to learn as much as I could about them.
So I always tried to find out some interesting information about their life, their habits, relations between various species and relationships between people and animals. I also spent much time looking up information about physiology of different animals in encyclopedias and reference books. I always kept track of new articles that investigated high intellectual abilities of sea mammals, behavioral peculiarities of lions in a pride and social roles in a horde of wolves. In addition I often took part in online discussions and forums dedicated to animal life and posted my ideas about conservation projects that may help restore and prevent elimination of endangered species. This experience helped me enrich my knowledge and exchange the newest information about animal life with people from all over the world. My interest in animals also gave me an impetus to thoroughly study natural sciences.
Understanding that everything is interconnected on the Earth, I took deep interest in Biology, Geography, Physics and Chemistry. Only knowledge of the general situation can help find out the particulars. I am sure I will make a good veterinarian, because my enormous love and tenderness for animals is sustained not only by deep knowledge of animals, but also by a profound practical background. I currently work in the local clinic where I have a great chance to acquire skills and practical knowledge necessary for my future profession. And I also work with the local animal shelter and help find homes for unwanted pets. This work is not easy, but it is very rewarding.

It is such a pleasure to see how hearts of lonely people brighten up when they find a friend whom they can care for. And in return they can always rely on their new friends devotion and faithfulness. When I find people who would like to take a pet, I always make a thorough investigation of those people to be sure that the pet will be loved and cared about in this family. And even after the pet is successfully settled, I often visit the family to make certain that the pet feels comfortable in the new surrounding. This process demands from me much tact, sense of delicacy and good communication skills which I will successfully use in my future work, because these qualities are extremely important in work of veterinarian doctors. They help them tackle problems that sometimes arise in communication with people of different temperament types and different social background. Many people believe that it is easy to be a veterinarian, that a Veterinarians degree is only a technical school type of degree, which it is not.
I understand perfectly well that fondness for animals is not enough to make a person a good veterinarian. A person willing to choose this career should learn a lot of theoretical and practical things. In fact, I know that the veterinarian curriculum is more diversified than human medicine because of the amount of different species and physiologies future veterinary doctors have to study. Many veterinarians especially general practitioners should take on many responsibilities as surgeons, diagnosticians, pharmacists, behaviorists, radiologists, dentists to provide comfort to both patients and their owners. They also need much courage and fortitude to be able to cope with their emotions in case when an animal can not be saved. I am sure I possess enough theoretical knowledge, practical skills and personal qualities necessary for becoming a professional veterinarian in the future.
