To raise the driving age is a negative decision for today’s society. It would mean more unexperienced drivers on the roads because there would be less time to learn before they are independent. Sixteen years of age is a prime time in a persons life to get a license because they have the time as well as the proper mindset to follow instructions and learn.
To raise the minimum age to obtain a drivers licenses means that young drivers will be subjected to unfair assumption that they will cause problems on the road and that just because they are young they will be bad drivers.
The minimum age to obtain a drivers license should not be raised because those people who are older than sixteen would have much less experience. The excitement of finally getting to “go out on their own” and they’d know nothing about driving a car. Many of them wouldn’t have their parent, parent or a guardian, to teach them. Studies show that it is inexperience, not age, that causes accidents.
Raising the driving age will just create inexperienced, accident-prone drivers at eighteen instead of sixteen. Teenagers need the ability to drive just as much as anyone else, to get to school, to get to work, to get to sports or band practice, or just to go out with their friends. Cars are necessary for mobility in this country. Taking that away is a large disruption to the lives of teenagers for no good reason.
