One of the most highly discussed issues in this country for the last few years and especially the last year has been gun control. More and more people have been asking questions along the lines of; should an individual be legally allowed to carry or own a firearm? Which firearm is best used in self defense? Will limiting the size of a magazine prevent future tragedies? Or, why does anyone need an “assault” rifle? It is a very important issue to be discussed, especially after the incidents that have occurred around the country where individuals have shot up movie theatres and schools. There are many arguments that will take place where people who are for gun control will say things such as; guns kill people and, if we regulate them so that only law enforcement were to have them, there would be no more gun crime. Myself and many patriots like me however, do not believe that to be the case.
The second amendment to the Unites States Constitution states that, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” The core principle of our nations founding is based upon the idea that every individual is guaranteed the right to personal protection of their lives and those of whom they love. Having that right comes with great responsibility, as well as having an expansive knowledge and respect for the firearm in which a person might own. Many people who have firearms in there household may or may not have the entire understanding on how to care and maintain there firearm. They may also not be fully aware of the dangers that a firearm may pose in the hands of a criminal or even a child. It is up to each individual person to ensure that they take the time to learn proper firearm safety and how to handle their firearm accordingly.

But there is still a market in which a person may go about attaining one. It’s called the “black” market, or the illegal business of buying or selling goods or currency in violation of restrictions such as price controls or rationing, as defined by The Free Dictionary. Also, some states do not require that you go through the NICS system in order to attain a firearm if you purchase it from an individual, or a person to person transaction.
Gun control, in my belief, is basically people control. If a large group of people, who have been convicted of numerous felonies or have a history of violent behavior, band together through one idea that they all share, and that idea leads them to become violent. They may take to the streets with there firearms, which they could not have gotten legally and therefore must have got on the “black” market. They may induce violence, which could lead mass shootings; in which case no firearm could be tracked to the person who did the shooting, since they do not legally own those firearms. Now say there’s a group of citizens who legally own their firearms, who know that if they shoot someone, it can be traced back to them. But doing it for the right reasons and not the wrong ones depict whether or not a person has the correct moral obligation to themselves and to others around him or her.

Let’s say they’re in close vicinity to this angry mob of violent mass shooter, they can all band together through one idea that this mob is doing harm to innocent people or is about to do harm and should be stopped before it gets worse. They can legally use there firearms to prevent another tragedy. A criminal who wishes to do harm by using a firearm, will be able to get it without worry of being ran through the federal NICS system, since he can get it on the “black” market.
The majority of the people, who buy a firearm legally, do so in accordance with their state and local laws. They have no reason to be considered criminal unless deemed so by authorities, in which case the NICS system should have already prevented them from purchasing a firearm. Preventing law abiding citizens from their Constitutional right to self preservation is criminal in itself. There should be no reason that anyone who feels they may need a firearm to defend themselves or their loved ones, in any type of situation, should be prevented from that right. Everyone has basic human rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
