Arthurian Legend Abiding by the seven sins and containing qualities such as bravery, loyalty, and respect make up the Arthurian Legend. Knights of the past, such as King Arthur and Sir Gawain became renowned heros because of those qualities. The Arthurian Legend answers a need in American Society today for three reasons. First, it is a reminder of the great past. It is impressive that the chilverous, brave knights were real. I think people are astonished that a person could actually follow such a strict code of behavior.
Lust and envy take part in our society as meaning nothing. Whereas in the past, it was sinful and unacceptable. Second, heros, idols, and role models are what people have been longing for since the beginning of time. In today’s society a hero has become mere fiction, portrayed in the movies. People enjoy stories and movies because it is an escape from the real world. Everyone loves a happy ending.
It is a fictional fantasy land that people consistently crave. Third, people’s values have changed. Morality has been lost in our corrupt society. If virtues and integrity could be replaced to mankind, the world would be a more peaceful place. However, violence, greed, and dishonesty are the only qualities growing stronger throughout our society. In conclusion, I think that the Arthurian Legend answers a need in American society.
If the Arthurian Legend was followed today like it was in the past, our problems would cease. Conflict would still occur, but the lack of morality among the American people is dragging our society down.
