Assignment 4 Cuber and Kenkel defined stratification as a pattern of superimposed status of a person or a group of persons in society with the result that there comes to exist people, high or low, superior or inferior. According to Kurt B. Mayer, social stratification is a system of differentiation which includes a hierarchy of social positions whose occupants are treated as superior, equal or inferior relative to one another in socially important respects. It would thus be seen that inequality of status or rank differentiation is distinguishing feature of social stratification; where there is social stratification there is social inequality. My life has suddenly changed. I am a homeless person now. People view me like an animal that have come out from forest to an urban area. My own friends and kins are hesitant of accepting me.
I am not the same person who was respected in the society. The person who was asked to be involved in each and every decision making process of our own society. Was that respect because of money and legacy? As a human I dont have respect if I dont have riches. Housing is biggest obstacle and major reason of my concern. In fact there are realistic solutions to it. Why not the state thinks of doing something to our shuttle cock life? We have seen governments after governments but we hapless people have not seen a roof over our heads. Cant these people expect that much from their governments? Just imagine how much percentage of total annual expenditure goes for defense purposes and specially the nuclear weapons. If we look at the mathematics just few of them if not erected then all houses can be erected and problem of homelessness wont exist.
The Essay on Person Of Consequence Gogol Akaky Government
A Whisper of Change At first glance of Nikolay Gogol's novel The Overcoat, one would only see a short story about a poor man wishing to survive in a cruel world. However, in looking further into the story, deep symbolism can be found. Gogol lived in Russia during the rise of the communist party, and was a great dissident of communism. He believed the inevitable end of a communist government was ...
It is very surprising that one can keep acres and acres of land while other cant have an inch. This too is a major route of problem. Government should reserve such power that one can not keep lands like that. It is for the government to list out its priorities. Whether to put the horse in front of the carriage or cart in front of the horse is for the rulers to decide. But the common man has its poverty before him. Government must extend the funding for housing. It should be realistic and not in paers and files. Providing adequate land and fund on loan basis with minimal interest is one remedy.
A better remedy would be construction of cheaper version of housing at governments own cost and then distributing among the needy. The workers in Nickel and Dimed receive almost no benefits — no overtime pay, no retirement funds, and no health insurance. This is completely a social injustice. An increase in salary would readdress the lack of benefits to certain extent. The key of problem lies in social planning. Social planning is a movement that has recently come in to existence. The days of laissez-faire are over. Man must plan on the basis of facts discovered by scientific research in order to deal effectively with the problems facing him.
They have to realize that social problems are mostly man made and can be adequately treated by man. There is no longer any choice between laissez-faire and planning, but only between good and bad planning. Therefore an effective good planning can solve this social problem of homelessness and that is the reality based on facts..
