A statement of faith is a declaration that expresses the author’s true beliefs. Those beliefs may be placed in religion, or something else, such as music, politics, or consumerism. Some examples of statements of faith are “Music as a Safe Haven,” “Why I Went Into The Woods,” and “The Story of Stuff.” In an effective statement of faith, the author is invested in what the faith is put in, has a better life for it, and has something that the general population doesn’t.
In an effective statement of faith, the writer describes something that has enhanced their life. If something, such as politics or religion, has had a profound impact on one’s life, it has earned their faith. It must also be a beneficial impact, because to make a statement of faith is to declare something valuable and trusted.
Another element of an effective statement of faith is that it is something that the author has invested in. After all, if something has profoundly impacted the author’s life, it is likely that they have changed their life because of it. By writing the statement of faith, the author is sharing their knowledge that something has changed their life and that it is worth it.
The third element of a statement of faith is that it is not something mundane. In the average person’s day-to-day life, it is not common for them to be familiar with the level at which the author writes describes whatever they have faith in. The subject of the statement of faith is distinctive, and provides a unique perspective. If everybody in America does something everyday, it is not worth putting extra faith in because it is expected.
The Essay on Faith In Life Jews Hope Elie
In the horror of the Nazi death camps portrayed in Night, Elie Wiesel and his fellow Jews had to struggle to maintain their "faith in life." This battle that they waged against "icy winds" in camps where "death was all around [them]" was a constant necessity for them to continue to survive. Harsh as it was many Jews failed, and losing their faith in life died; yet many more, like Elie, found the ...
“Music as a Safe Haven,” “Why I Went Into The Woods,” and “The Story of Stuff” are all good examples of effective statements of faith. All three are descriptions of things that have had a huge impact on the author’s life. For Thoreau, simple living has made life better. In “Music as a Safe Haven,” Etheridge describes music as “the one thing that did keep me safe” as well as “happy and free and comfortable” (525).
In the video “The Story of Stuff,” the directors reveal how the way that people consume products has affected the quality of life. Also, all three of these describe something that the author has invested in. In “The Story of Stuff,” the directors have been researching consumerism and its effects for 15 years. Melissa Etheridge has made a career out of music, and Thoreau bought his cabin at the lake and dedicated his time to write a book about the importance of simplicity. The last reason these works are good examples of statements of faith are that all three are made by people who have something that the general population does not have. For Thoreau, that is a true understanding of life. He writes, “Time is but a stream I go afishing in” (130).
For the directors of “The Story of Stuff,” that is knowledge and a developed habit to consume and waste less. For Etheridge, that is a deep love of music. They all consider these things very valuable and want to share them with others.
Nevertheless, these criteria can be disputed. There are many things that can make a person’s life better, without being worthy of their faith. For example, air conditioning enhances a person’s quality of life but is not worth a statement of faith in it. Also, the facts that a person’s life is impacted and that they invest in what has impacted it are related. If a person invests in something, it usually has impacts their life. Lastly, describing a faith in something that is unique does not make a good statement of faith. A member of society may have a unique perspective without a strong faith in a particular subject. In fact, they might have a lack of faith, making a statement of faith irrelevant. Therefore, a unique perspective does not assure a good statement of faith.

A statement of faith is a good way to express how your life has been set apart by something. It describes how something has helped the author.
