Melissa Franco An influential person in my life July 12, 2003 My best friend Billy Jo Cosby There are many ways to define Billy Jo. Cosby, my best friend, a daughter, a mother, and a wife. We are both special and unique, yet we share a common connection. What bonds us is our mutual experiences; of loving and learning; feeling the tenderness of love; forgoing lifelong friendships; pursuing a chosen career; giving birth to new life; juggling the responsibilities of job and family, and more. The day that changed my life forever was March 8, 1996. Some of my friends and I decided to go visit another close friend of mine at one o’clock in the morning, and Lord behold that is when I saw this tall and seemed to be shy girl I had never seen before Billy Jo Cosby.
I wanted to go out and enjoy the moon light that night, but everyone was tried. Then just as I thought I would be going to bed I heard this soft and sweet voice say, ” I’ll go with you.” said, Billy Cosby. I turned and looked up at her, I’ll never forget that big bright smile. We were so young and carefree back then. On that night, we drove more than one hundred miles to South Padre Island and parted all morning. It was a night, I never could forget.
We both met the love of our life’s on that beach under the moonlight. It was like a novel you read from a Daniel Steal book. She has one living parent which is her mother Maggie, and one sister named Jo Lynn. Billy has two living nephews and one deceased. They are Christian, Caleb, and Matthew.

Her family is very small consisting of three uncles, one aunt, and the only living grandparent. Which is her maternal grandfather. From what she remembers, she moved around a lot. She moved from her birth place of Goliad, Texas to Los Angeles, Ca, to Edinburg, TX, and Rio Grande City, TX. For most of her childhood, she mainly remembers living in Edinburg, TX, with her grandmother on her mothers side. One of her most memorable moments of her grandmother was, how she and her stepfather got along and communicated even through there was a language barrier.
He knew no Spanish and she knew no English. Billy’s family is small and quaint, yet she has many memories of them all. The one thing I’ve always admired about Billy is her ability to cheer me up when I’ve been down in the dumps. I’ve often told my self there are aspects about myself that puzzle me, and other aspects that I do not know. But she has always let me know. That as long as I’m friendly and loving to myself, and others.
I can hopefully look for the solutions to the puzzles, and ways to make me feel better about myself and life. Though our long friendship, we have been through many family crises, a few failed relationships, and we have battled many rough storms together. They have definitely bought us closer together. It has made our bond tighter to one another. Now we are both settled down with families of our own, each one of us raising a daughter..
