“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” Genesis 1:27 A worldview is your system of beliefs, values and philosophy in life. It is your framework and ideas and attitude related to the world and life situations. A Christian worldview will believe that there is a God who created us all and gave us dominion over all other creation. God inspired men to write the words in the bible and there is no error in it. Elmer Towns says that fundamental to our statement of faith is the belief in “the verbal inspiration and inerrancy of the 66 books”. (Elmer Towns, Section 2 Big Bold Extraordinary Faith).
The bible is more than a theology textbook and it is more than the Ten Commandments; its words are life-producing and transforming. Without faith, we are hopeless and helpless.
I am attending these courses so I can become a successful Christian counselor. I must be totally committed to the thought that we are made in his image so I can convince others there is hope. My first example related to my profession as a Counselor is to have a spirit of empathy. According to Wikipedia, Empathy is “the capacity to recognize emotions that are being experienced by another.” One may need to have a certain amount of empathy before being able to experience sympathy or compassion. If we are to be like Jesus, we must be able to meet people where they are. We must be caring and compassionate so we can feel what they feel. We know that since Adam’s fall, man has been born with a sinful nature. Left alone, we are weak and easily tempted. Sin is our master and many times we make foolish decisions and cannot help ourselves.
The Essay on Milton's Paradise Lost And His Justification Of The Ways Of God To Man
When John Milton decided to write, he knew from the start he wanted his creation to be that of an epic. Paradise Lost is just that. It is Milton’s own take on the biblical story of Satan’s fall from grace as well as man’s fall. Milton was not only armed with an extensive knowledge on the Bible, but in everything a man of his time could learn. With his wisdom he emersed himself ...
Psalms 51:5 says “Behold, I was shapen in iniquity and in sin did my mother conceive me.” As Christians, if we think back to where we came from and all the things we had to overcome, we can then relate to others who are trying to find their way. If we use the right approach, we just may win them for Christ. The second example in Counseling is to be a strong in the faith, sharing your wisdom as well as love. Ephesians 6:10 tells us to “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.” I cannot be wavering as a Counselor…I must be strong and stand on what I believe. It tells us in the same chapter that we wrestle against various spirits. In my profession, I may see these spirits as addictions and other forms of abuse.
I may meet and come across others that don’t have a good value or belief system. Some may have parts of their worldview tainted or malfunctioning. It will be my job to assess what their needs are and line up my approach so that I get a favorable response. Depression and so many other conditions in life are real; but yet as Christians, we know there is hope. Day by day, I will help them build (or re-build) their faith by trusting in the Lord. “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thy own understanding…in all thy ways acknowledge him and He shall direct thy path” (Proverbs 3:5-6).
In summary, being “in His image” means that I will treat others with love and respect and meet them where they are. Whether their background is religious or not, I should always put my best foot forward and show them the love of Christ. The first chapter of Genesis details the creation and I must begin by a strong belief in these words. “If one cannot trust God’s word in creation, how can it be trusted at any other point” (Consider, Dr. Weider and Dr. Gutierrez, Chapter 5, page 85).
So this point is crucial in order to move forward. I plan to use the knowledge I learn from my various courses so that I can be instrumental in helping others throughout my life.
