Bill then came back after two years of little basketball to be drafted by the knicks. He signed a three year contract for 500, 000. That was unusual for a basketball player to get. Most of them got 50, 00 to 100, 00. He then had to spend six months in the air force.
After the six months he started playing for the knicks. But he wasn? t as good as he was in college because, he didn? t have as much practice. But managed to start on the knicks great team the second year of his career. Bill won the rookie of the year award. In 1971 he was thinking about dropping out of basketball and going for politics but then he hit his career high 38 and stayed.
