William Jefferson Clinton, commonly known as Bill Clinton, was born in 1946 and was the 46 th president of the United States from 1993-2003. He graduated from Georgetown University, attended Oxford University and received a law degree from Yale University. His profession as a lawyer led to his political career. In 1974, Clinton became a Democratic leader in the U. S. House of Representatives, but was not very successful.
In 1976 he was elected Arkansas’s attorney general, and also won the Arkansas governorship, making him the youngest governor at that time. He was known as a moderate Democrat and in 1990 to 1991 he headed the centrist Democratic Leadership Council. The next year, he won the presidential nomination. He ran in the election with Al Gore. Together they gained 43% of the national vote. When in office, Clinton did many positive things for his country.
One of his greatest accomplishments was helping many students get through college. In 1999 he proposed and enacted the HOPE Scholarships, which were claimed by an about 10 million American would could not pay for college. The HOPE Scholarships helped make the first two years of college available by providing a tax credit of up to $1, 500 for tuition and fees for the first two years of college. In general, the Clinton administration helped education everywhere.
Another worthy contribution Clinton made while in office was improving foreign policy. He Stabilized Southeast Europe by ending a decade of repression and ethnic cleansing in Kosovo through leading NATO alliance to victory in air campaign and ushering in international peacekeepers, and by launching the Stability Pact to strengthen democracy, economic development and security throughout the region and accelerating its integration with the rest of Europe. However, as everyone knows, Clinton had quite the personal scandal while in office. This made some people believe that his personal life would reflect his work and that he wasn’t worthy or very “moral” enough to be the president. Although maybe he wasn’t such a great guy, he was a good leader. On a scale on 1 to 5 (5 being the highest), I would rate Bill a 3.
