Billie Holiday was born on April 7th, 1915 the daughter of a Clarence Holiday. He was also a musically talented, and played the guitar/banjo. She work at an early age in run down factories, and where ever she could get a job. Billie was discovered in a factory by Columbia Records scout John Hammond and signed in 1933. She was discovered around sixteen or seventeen, which was late to begin a career as a musician, or a sing at that matter. On her debut record she was accompanied by members of Benny Goodmans studio band, but Holiday went on to work with such men as Teddy Wilson, Buck Clayton, and Lester Young who gave her the nick name Lady Day. She also did some touring with such groups as The Count Basie Orchestra in 1937, and Artie Shaw in 1938.
During the early forties Lady day ruled the club seen every club you went to she was headlining it everywhere you looked you saw her face and name in lights need less to say she had hit the top of her career! During this time post work for Decca became a hit and she received popular acclaim, for the smash it lover Man. Unfortunately he bad upbringing, had lead to a life of drugs and other things more heroin than anything. Because of the drugs her career was marked with peaks and valleys. Bye the time she was recording for Verve in the fifties lady days voices was but a hint in the wind the sex drugs and rock and soul had killed her! She collapsed on July 1959, was in a coma until, July 176, 1959. She died at the age of forty-four, and her voice is one of the greatest voices ever to grace Gods green earth.
