Mariah Carey was born and raised in New York by her mother. She began singing at the age of four. By the time she was in junior high, she had begun to write songs. After her high school graduation, she got her fist big break, singing backup for Brenda K. Starr, a break that led to her signing with Columbia Records. Mariah always knew that she would be a singing star. Mariah’s father was black and Venezuelan. Her mother, the daughter of Irish immigrants, was an opera singer. Mariah has overcome a lot of hardships throughout her life. Through her experiences, Mariah feels like she can relate to her fans. She hopes to make them see that no matter what, you can make it through. She now donates to numerous children’s charities and even has a camp for inner-city kids named after her in New York. She plans on continuing her work in the music industry and promises many new albums in the future.
