The proposed topic “Biometric Fingerprint Scan Log In/Log Out with payroll system for FH Commercial Inc.” will be created using Code Gear Delphi2010 and Seagate Crystal Report. The Payroll System will be connected with the Biometric Fingerprint Scanner. The scanner, aside from providing accurate and efficient monitoring of the employees’ time and attendance, will also make payroll computation faster. The computerized payroll system will take care of the automatic payroll computations segregating deductibles like PhilHealth contributions, SSS Premiums and SSS Loans, PAG-IBIG Fund, Withholding Tax, and deductions due to absences and for reporting late at work in which the deduction depends on the time the employees log in.
The authorized person in the accounting department or the administrator enters each employee’s information into the system. An employee information screen with fill in the blank options will be provided with spaces for names, addresses, contact numbers, birthday, and other important details about the employee. After filling out the employee information screen, the administrator/authorized person is directed to the portion of the payroll to enter the rate of pay, overtime rate, the rate of late log in deductions, and the deductions for PAG-IBIG Fund, SSS Premium, PhilHealth Contribution and Withholding tax.

When an employee reports to work, the employee places a finger on the scanner. When the fingerprint is read the employee then places the smartcard on the scanner. The employee’s finger is scanned and the scanner sends it to the database to check a match. The same process happens to the encoded biometric data on the smartcard. It is also compared to the reference database to authenticate the identity of the employee. If a match of the fingerprint and the encoded biometric data on the smartcard is established with the reference database, the employee IN time will be recorded with date and time in the log table. The data will then be processed further and forwarded to the Payroll System. When the employee leaves the office, his OUT time will be recorded in the same way. Option for the administrator to edit a few records if required or remove invalid entries will be provided for the changing holiday schedules and filed leaves.
3. REASON FOR CHOICE:
With the rapid development of technology, more and more advanced equipments and software are produced. The proponents would like to be a part of these developments. The proponents in choosing the said topic would also like to enhance their skills in programming and to gain more knowledge on Code Gear Delphi2010 and Seagate Crystal Report.
4. IMPORTANCE OF THE STUDY:
FH Commercial Inc. still uses the traditional way of computing their Payroll. It is still done manually. The Daily Time Record (DTR) and a Bundy Clock are still used to monitor the attendance of the employees. Two separate systems done manually. The proposed system will be a great help for the company because it will make their work much easier and faster.
5. TARGET USERS / BENEFICIARIES:
The proponents chose FH Commercial Inc. as the target beneficiary of their capstone project because they saw that the company needs the proposed system. Since the company was established, they have been using the manual system of payroll computation and the Bundy Clock for their log in/log out. The proposed topic will save time, money and effort giving opportunity for the company to accomplish more at a lesser time. It saves time and effort because the Payroll System is already connected with the Biometric Scanner making it faster and easier for computations. It saves money because considering efficiency and accuracy, there is a lesser possibility of error. The proposed project will not only benefit the company, but the employees as well promoting fair and just competition for everyone because it requires the presence of the employee to log in and eliminates the opportunity of employees to ask their buddy to punch their cards for them.
