Blood is very essential for transporting all important part of substances such as oxygen and other substances throughout the body. Donated blood can be lifesaving for individuals who have lost blood because of accidents or surgery, as well as for people who have dangerously low platelet counts because of certain medical conditions or treatments.
Screening measures help to maximize safety of blood donation for the donor and the recipient. From that blood donations are very important part of our healthcare system. Without blood donations, many of the medical procedures that we take for granted could not take place. Doctors and surgeons rely on blood donations to carry out a wide variety of life-saving and life-enhancing treatments every day.
On 4th October 2013, University Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) had organized an event for blood donation program and this is joining with the main event of Carnival Students Activities and Cooperative Week 2013 that took place at the marching court UTHM. The blood donation program was fully organized by UTHM student itself Wan Muhammad Idham Bin Wan Mahdi from Faculty of Electrical and Electronic engineering (FKEE) and it was conducted under the support of Blood Bank Department of Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail Batu Pahat.
This event was started from 8.00 am to 1.00 pm and it was open to everyone to donate not just for the UTHM students. More than that, the blood donation drive was a huge success with an overwhelming response from the UTHM student and the people of Batu Pahat. People from of all walks of life came together for this noble cause and now it become common place things done nearly every day either in the hospital halls as well as a shopping center.

There were around 83 donors were successfully able to donate blood. Lot of blood donation sessions are held each year by the Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail Batu Pahat, so it is usually possible to attend one convenient for us. Several screening measures are make to questions about donors health and have a quick blood test before donors can donate blood. This is done to ensure there is no negative health effects or danger to donors or someone else that will use these bloods.
All blood donors are asked questions about their medical history to help determine whether they can safely donate blood without experiencing any negative health effects . During the donation, one unit of blood approximately 500 mL were collected for one person for 10-15 minutes and it was between 18 and 60 years can only donate the blood.
Thereafter, the donors will asked to stay in the refreshment area for at least 10 minutes following the donation. At that time donors should start replenishing a fluids by having a soft drink, enjoy a snack and relax. The donors will asked to refrain from active movement or heavy lifting for the rest of the day.
The need is constant and crucial every day. A blood shortage occurs anytime donations fall enough to strain the buffer that blood centers maintain in order to keep hospitals supplied. The blood center is responsible for making sure hospitals have adequate blood supplies at all times, especially in tragedies. We all have a responsibility to make sure we have enough blood at all times.
There is some of feedback from a blood donation program crew Noriah Binti Mahadi from Faculty of Electrical and Electronic engineering (FKEE) that is important to donate blood and it is to make sure the bank blood have enough blood supply. More than that, she said that this event should be continue and hope that this event would be continued by the next generations so that blood banks can meet the needs of the people in need of blood.

In conclusion, giving blood is one of the noble act where it is something than can even save others life or the life of someone in our family. Therefore, public awareness about the blood donation is very necessary so that they are aware that many of the people who need blood for surgery and medicine to survive.
With these campaign, we can help to alleviate the shortage of blood supply to people in need and to ensure that everyone gets the blood type needed.
