On Saturday, Franny Chen and Yao Chen were found dead at their small apartement building in King County, Washington. A call was made to 911 by the couples ten year old son who reported to the police that his father had first Shot his mother and then proceeded to take his own life. The neighbor of the couple informed the officer that Yao Chen moved back in the house against the mothers will and continually abused Franny Chen until the day in which he took both of their lives. Yao reportedly lost his job as a restaurant cook and was making zero income and trying to live off of the mothers waitress job income.
I can relate this issue primarily to the crime and suicide topics of sociology. The side of crime that sociologists would classify this case would be a conventional crime, in which all crime is considered violent, certain property crimes, and certain moral crimes. The crime was a violent crime which includes murder. Sociologists would also view this crime in relevance to the social class in which the individual was. For instance, the view of poverty that sociologists would view the case as is absolute poverty which exists when people do not have the means to secure the basic necessities of life. Whereby, Yao Chen, in the lack of money and lack of necessities was unable to secure the basice necessities of his life.
The next sociological explanation for this occurrence is under the category of suicide. The Conflict perspectives would view Yao Chen as in the continuous power struggle for scarce resources (money).
