“Let other give to Caesar Caesar’s own: I have begrudged the years the right usurious to tax me to the bone.” A line from the poem I have begrudged the years by Angela Manalang-Gloria. This line has to be my favorite beacuse I could really relate to this. It is vividly telling us about an unrequited love.
Love can be really painful at times. You love someone and not expecting him or her to love you back. Many of us had experienced this. Some us believed that if you see your special someone happy and contented, it is enough for us to be happy as well. It’s better if you set them free. Why is this happening? It is because we are afraid of rejection. Love was always a monopoly. You’ll never know whether someone really loves you or not. All you know is you love them. That is what always makes unrequited love difficult. Especially for the girls, it is an awkward feeling if you confess to your special someone that you love them. However, in my own perspective there is no wrong in showing and telling how much you love a person is. Love is being showed and not kept. As some says, truth will set you free. Don’t be afraid of rejection. We should accept the fact that when we love you cannot avoid to be hurt. In my sixteen years of existence, I experienced to be broken twice. It’s really hard to admit that you love someone the way he loves you too particularly when you’re not ready to commit a relationship with him. It was one of the difficult decisions that I made but it was worth it. I realized you cannot just say that you love him back if you are not really prepared.

Thus, one must know the consequences of unrequited love. No one could ever doubt that the most empowering emotion is to be in love. To be embraced, accepted and wanted but with being in love comes the emotional risk that the person you want to spend the rest of your life with might not want the same. When that happens love is often conflicted with pain, suffering, and jealousy which are all second-hand emotions of love. “Love is the condition in which the happiness of another person is essential to your own.” by Robert Heinlein. Show our love to our special someone and don’t be afraid to be rejected. Life goes on, no matter what happens.
