First I would like to start off by saying I think this was the unintelligent thing the state / people of California could do. This will go down in history as the most hideous election, and I always thought the election 2000 in Florida would be. It was also my first year voting and it makes me never want to vote again if someone like Arnold Schwarzenegger could win. I might as well move to Canada if I have Arnie running the state I live in and that great man Mr. Bush is running the United States.
(Yes I probably shouldn’t be even saying something like this, with the lovely Patriot Act that our government has chose to enforce in America, the land of the free. Yeah right. ) I think the major reason Governor Davis was recalled from office because people are too ignorant to look at the statistics. I think the budget crisis did not start from Davis. It started back in the 1970’s. A variety of factors, not Davis, created this situation.
In 1978, the people of California passed Proposition 13, which capped property taxes and stopped lawmakers from raising taxes without a two-thirds majority. In effect, they ensured that state revenues would shrink. In 1988, the people of California locked the state into spending 40 percent of its general fund on education. Over the years other initiatives have fixed spending minimums in other areas. In effect, they tied lawmakers’ hands in budget matters. In 1990, the people set term limits for elected state officials.
The Essay on People In California Pony Express
People in California wanted mail. The telegraph line was not connected that far west in 1860, and trains did not pass the Missouri river. It took almost took a month to get a letter by ship or stage coach. That's why the Pony Express was started. In the mid 1800's gold was discovered in California. Thousands of people hitched their wagons and headed west for the chance of striking it rich. The ...
Now no politician dealing with today’s crises will be around to face the long-term consequences of his or her decisions. In 1997, the people of California passed a law empowering one-third of the voters to veto all local tax increases. City and counties can’t recoup revenue losses stemming from Proposition 13. Throughout these years, the population of California has been growing faster than that of any other state or country.
In every category, therefore, from schools to prisons, the state’s expenses have been climbing like a bad fever. People jump to conclusions too quickly especially when the government makes a decision, such as the one Gray Davis chose to make with the prison system. Despite a $34. 8 billion deficit, the Department of Corrections got a 1 percent increase in funding in the governor’s proposed budget. The governor’s budget even includes $220 million for a new state-of-the-art death row facility at San Quentin Prison. Furthermore, while Davis wisely suggested laying off about 1, 900 state employees, he also called for adding 800 new prison employees – and potential contributors – to the corrections payroll.
This is where people think Davis is spending our money for no apparent reason. However I would disagree because with the population growing in California, the crime rate is on the rise too. We have to have somewhere to put these “bad guys.” Gray Davis also passed the buck to cities and counties, forcing them to operate costly long-term health care and child abuse programs usually run by the state. Former Gov.
Pete Wilson designed a similar realignment in the early 1990 s. I believe that this was also a good choice to follow in Pete Wilson. To lower a deficit you have to raise taxes and cut things out of the budget and so this is where he started. If Schwarzenegger wants to run for mayor of some city in California or any other state, fine. But not governor of the largest state in the country, especially one that is clearly on the Democratic side. It just smells like more of the Republican dirty tricks to me Republicans can never just let a Democrat just run his or her term and accept the fact that they lost.
They always have to bring in some lie or scandal to get the people of the United States to get their bowels in an uproar. Why can’t they just leave well enough alone? Democrats don’t dig so far into someone’s life and then throw all their dirty laundry out for the public to see, why must Republicans? I just know that as long as we have these two political parties in our government system that it was always be “us” versus “them.” The United States citizens and people will never come to terms on anything, and I guess that’s why we live in a democracy. At least Schwarzenegger has owned up to his steroid and marijuana use – but he’s still another hypocritical Republican who goes around telling kids to stay off drugs, something he didn’t do. Schwarzenegger was bold to come out and admit all his past choices.
The Essay on Based on the case, as governor of California, what types of power is Schwarzenegger likely to have?
Schwarzenegger began weight training at the age of 15. He won the Mr. Universe title at age 20 and went on to win the Mr. Olympia contest seven times. Schwarzenegger has remained a prominent presence in bodybuilding and has written many books and articles on the sport. Schwarzenegger gained worldwide fame as a Hollywood action film icon. Case 1: Arnold Schwarzenegger: Leader of California? 1. What ...
Arnold did not shy away from discussing allegations against him. I also think that we are a hypocritical nation because we accused Arnold of “groping” charges etc… and disregarded them and elected him to be our next governor. Yet we impeached Bill Clinton for charges similar.
”His ‘apologies’ have not resolved the problem,’ ‘ Greco said. ”Men are going to get it, and say, ‘How can I look at my wife in the face — or my daughter or my co-workers — and say I’m going to go to the polls and vote for someone who treats you like this?” Well many people decided to go against this, especially women. I have yet to figure out why we would want some man who has no respect for woman and sexually harasses them. I think the democrats looked very bad in this election for the mare fact the Lt. governor Cruz Bustamante, back stabbed Gray Davis.
Two democrats with most of the same agenda should be civil with one another and they weren’t. Bustamante I also feel did not do his share in campaigning. Although I am not saying I wanted to see him on the television cooking on a grill about to put Davis on it. I just think a lot of people were not aware of his presence. Congressman Darrell Issa, R-San Diego, is the man that started this all.
The Essay on California State Economist Power
Will the Lights Go Out In California? In today's society, our state and national government doesn't hold much trust from its citizens. From the terrorist attacks on September 11 th, we have been fed shoddy information about prior knowledge, instigation's, and about warnings that our government ignored. Now, California is faced with an alarming tragedy caused by its government and political ...
Issa funded much of the recall effort, and said just last week that he would run against Davis. Ironically, Issa decided not to run for governor. He said he was not ready to give an endorsement in the recall bid. “Despite warnings that the state is headed for Florida-style voting snafus, an 11-judge panel of the 9 th U.
S. Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously agreed that delaying the recall until March would impose a ”material hardship” on California. The panel noted that nearly 700, 000 voters had already cast absentee ballots and the state had spent up to $50 million preparing for an imminent election to decide whether Gov. Gray Davis should keep his job.” This is a complete joke. I know that I will sound like I am contradicting myself, buy yes, I do believe in recalls. I think it would help keep the government in line.
If someone was elected on an education / environment platform, and once they got into office, took money and attention away from those programs as well as spending their time doing nothing to improve the states future… yes, I would think a recall would be in line. I think the British and Israeli governments have something like a recall… .” lack of confidence vote.” This is not taken lightly and neither should a recall vote. I also wanted to see what other people outside of California thought of this recall so I asked a friend of mine who lives in Rhode Island.
Scott, 29, said he would describe this election as a “circus, a populist uprising, a freak show and a voter revolt.” He also said that “even he himself or even you could do better as a governor then Arnold. It just makes California look like the fruits everyone calls them.” The real problem with California is not a non – effective governor, which seems to be the case. The problem is that the state government refused to correct or fix the problems at all. In my opinion the state house needs to be replaced also.
A real or true clean sweep, and start all over again. Of course the current officials can’t run in the new total election. This will insure all new thinking and will get people in government who realize that you must do the job right or you ” re history. As they debated this word circus was mentioned…
The Essay on California State Law on High School Exit Examinations
By law, school districts must implement an exit examination to any and all 12th grade students. It is the school's responsibility to have resources on the school's site for students to access in preparation for the exit examination. The superintendent of each district will take it upon himself/herself to maintain this process. It is also under the superintendent that he/she shall study the ...
was this political race really what it seemed to be or was it just for National entertainment at its best? I believe the State of California is a circus and the candidates are the trained monkeys. Maybe the best thing that California could do is divide into two separate states… North California and South California. Arnold’s election represents everything that is wrong – and unfair – in America’s political system.
I think this election sets a new trend for California voters or any other state; you can oust a governor for being left-handed, for wearing ugly ties, or for any other reason. web web web web web web.
