When defibrillation is delayed survival rate decreases by 50%. Implantable cardioverter defibrillation (ICD) can detect and prevent sudden cardiac arrest. An ICD is a are small miniature cassettes sized devices implanted into the chest, to continuously monitor your heart rhythm and deliver calibrated electrical shock when needed to control abnormal rapid heart beats. The device can also terminate other types of irregular rhythm The cardiology department of angel healthcare systems reported an annual increase in the number of patients who have survived myocardial infarction with resultant ventricular dysfunction. The group has identified the need and has challenged the financial management of the facility to add the purchase of an ICD to the current budget proposal. If this device is not purchased, many lives will be lost to sudden death related to VT or VF. We recognize that the best medical products and therapies are only useful when they become available to the patients who need them. Providing patients with access to better care starts with close collaboration between health care workers.
