When one makes a decision about the work she/he will do in life, it is important that the decision be based on criteria that reflect his personal values, experiences, and skills. My choice of choosing to become a cosmetologist as a career was not made lightly; rather, it was the thought of a process of reflection about what I wanted to do with my life and my education. It seemed to me then, and still does, that while going to get my hair done that my hairstylist had a passion about what she was doing. I have been interested in cosmetology from the time I could brush my own hair and playing with all my Barbie dolls and baby. What attracted me to this field of study was that you can be versatile and do just about anything.
From learning how to properly do roller sets, color, haircutting, up dos, braiding, sew- ins, perms, relaxers and etc. I have learned a lot through my journey of cosmetology that upon my completion from the program I will get my license and make money. I enjoy helping people with their everyday hair dilemmas and see the before and after transformation. We can’t deny the fact that there is a hair salon on every corner and dozens of new stylists are joining the field rapidly every day. The only way to survive in this kind of industry is to be the best. Sure, you can make money without being the best stylist in town, but it will never become the salary or reputation that you desire. If you’re okay with making a mediocre paycheck that’s fine, everyone has different goals in life. So as I have stated before I love to see the before and after transformation of clients and it has been a learning experience so far in the industry that I do plan on working in a reputed salon where I can grow and learn from other stylists and advance my career.
