The founder could not have clear segmentation, they mostly rely on their perception towards luxury brands but not having a clear picture of what their brand looks like.
Q3: What should Grut and Pfiffer do with the Tokyo Jane brand, where should they go from here? They need to make clear with the segment and target market because then they could offer the right items to the right market. First of all they need to reconsider their positioning strategy, they cannot pursue both cost leadership and product differentiation at earlier stage because also they were not experience the efficient production cost at the beginning of the business. They need to improve their communication with all of the stakeholders involved in the company to have a better understanding about where is the current position of the company and what are they going to be in the future.
How/where should the brand be positioned in the market? The company has 2 options, either to pursue cost leadership or product differentiation, not both. In the jewelry market, product differentiation is more relevant because the trend tends to be updated continuously and it could change very quickly. Therefore, even before the production could experience efficient cost to produce the product, the trend will change already. The company cannot just say they want something that looks like in a Gucci store because also they need to understand what customers need. They could set up their own design without rely heavily on Gucci or Prada, but still offering something special for their consumers.
