Thus Bangladesh plunged into a gory war seeking its own birth. Independence Day is commonly associated with parades, fairs, concerts, ceremonies, and various other public and private events celebrating the history, and traditions of Bangladesh including the paying of respects at Jatiyo Smriti Soudho, the national memorial at Savar near Dhaka. Generally, a thirty-one gun salute is conducted in the morning. All schools of Fundacion Intervida celebrated Independence Day with great enthusiasm. To celebrate the day, discussion meeting and cultural program was organized and conducted.
Discussion meeting focusing the background history of liberation, about the nature and effect of war and the importance of independence was discussed in a way so that children can understand. At the end of the meeting, a cultural program was held in each school. Cultural program was organized with recitation, dance, short play and music. The most important thing is that the program was organized, conducted and facilitated by the children. It is an example of children participation and empowerment for which Intervida has been working.
