As society has developed and steadily increased in its degree of sophistication, so has the number of numerous threats that are always present in the wake of the course of events that span our everyday life (Moeller, 2005).
The following paragraphs shall delve into the significance of the numerous implications caused by the excessive and inappropriate usage of one of the most commonly used electrical appliances of the present era: the cellular phone. Cellular phones are accredited for a vast range of injuries since their advent.
On a broad perspective, these injuries can be classified to belong to two different natures. The first one is the one that is known around the world quite commonly and is one of the leading reasons for driving accidents around the world. The usage of cellular phones while driving has been an act that has been the reason for the deaths of countless lives and governments around the world have now passed laws that forbid drivers from using cellular phones while driving.
Although some laws allow drivers to make use of the hands-free options that cellular phones provide as well, yet the number of accidents per year still reaches a precarious number since the central element which causes accidents in the first place remains present even with the use of a hands-free. The driver’s attention is diverted and the driver fails to focus on the road ahead and the traffic alongside.
Cellular phones have been determined to be the cause behind over two thousand (2,000) deaths and over three hundred thousand (300,000) injuries across the Unites States of America every year (accidentinfo. com, 2005).

It is important to note here that there have been a number of reports on cellular phone explosion incidents where the cellular phone batteries have either short circuited or have over heated causing the expulsion of heat and at times, fragments of the exploded battery to injure people present in the surroundings (Charny, 2004).
Cellular phone manufacturers have insisted that it is necessary to ensure that counterfeit batteries are not used because they do not contain fail-safe precautionary mechanisms that are required to prevent damage to occur to the cellular phone or the person carrying the cellular phone in the event of an overheating or a short circuit caused by overpowering or a closure of aeration vents (Lawyers Attorneys, 2008).
There are however, a number of precautions that a person can exercise in order to avoid the occurrence of incidents such as the ones discussed above.
It is recommended that the cellular phone is used only and only when a person is in a stationary position. This is perhaps the only way that any possible injuries that cellular phone use can inflict can be prevented before they begin to take shape. If the use of the cellular phone turns into a necessity without which one cannot do, then it is suggested that the person makes use of the hands-free (iHealthBulletin News, 2008).
However, the use of the hands-free should not be considered to be an all out leverage that can be exploited to use cellular phones whenever and wherever the desire to do so id felt.
Rather the use of the hands-free should be encouraged to be kept to a bare minimum. It is necessary to understand that in a large amount of cases, it is not the tangible cellular phone that is the root of the problem but the diversion of attention that is caused due to the establishment of communication through the cellular phone. Any recommendations being made regarding the appropriate use of the cellular phone would be incomplete without a complete referral to the area that the recommendations span.

That is to say, that referral to the hands-free does not in any way imply that the precautionary measures are limited to merely the establishment of conversation through the cellular phone but also apply to any and all other activities that one can carry out through or on his/her cellular phone. For instance, perhaps one of the most common activities includes those of the likes of text messaging. References accidentinfo. com. (2005).
