Beowulf Character Analysis Beowulf Beowulf Character Analysis Essay, Research Paper Beowulf character analysis Of all the characters in the poem Beowulf, only one appeared to be completely “good.’ This character, Wiglaf, possessed such traits as courage, strength, and honor, while also being loyal and bold. He appeared to be a person who was true in his actions and his words. When Beowulf was losing his battle against a dragon and needed to “lean on younger arms,’ everyone who swore they would fight by his side fled like cowards except Wiglaf. Wiglaf said, “I’d rather burn myself than see flames swirling around my lord.’ This is a perfect example of Wiglaf’s loyalty and honor. He, unlike so many others, stayed by his king’s side to fight knowing that it may have meant his death. It was Wiglaf’s boldness that “he was born with’ and his courage that saved Beowulf from certain defeat.
If Wiglaf hadn’t intervened in the battle, the dragon would have easily won the battle and thus been free to wreak terror on the land. Wiglaf was a man who fought for what he believed was right and good. He stood by his word no matter how great the danger to himself. He was a man who knew no fear when his friends were in danger.
